Is it me or does the ripper pistol in "Into the Storm" (pg 112 & 113) seem a lil over-powered for a solid projectile weapon. Did i miss something, because at first glance it seems more powerful than a bolt weapon (with it's penetration of 7 and tearing special quality, nevermind it's toxic effect).
Ripper Pistol wtf
It's Extremely Rare, has a small clip, and fires unique ammunition that I'd be requiring an Upkeep test for every couple of sessions.
Its based on Sly Marbo's Ripper Pistol from the table top game, which always wounds on a roll of 2+.
The game was lacking in "high level" weaponry, in my oppinion. As written standard issue weaponry was about as powerful as it got, which is all fine and good, but I'm glad to see some unique weaponry available for the end game, though I would make this item (and items like it ) not benefit from the quanitity bonuses.
It is no more "overpowered" than a +5 sword compared to a +1 sword. Every item in its proper time and place in the story.
Though I might raise the availability to "near unique".
One of my players desperately wants one, so I'll try to assassinate him with it, so if he survives the attack he gets to keep it...
(This is how I rule most high end weapons)

You make a good point, and it nice to know that the ammo may be very rare (possibly affecting upkeep/profit factor).
i wouldn't say any one weapon or artical of gear is over powered for a Rogue trader group. even at lv 1 depending on your starting profit factor most RT can aquire common power armor, even if is one suit at a time. now if there are characters from Dark Heresy in the group such weapons woud definity be classed as over powered

I approve.
