Margaery Tyrell and Plot Hosing

By Mathias Fricot, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I was wondering what happens when I have Margaery Tyrell (or Bran Stark) in play when Dragonstone Port is active in play.

Everyone chooses plots.

I activate Margaery Tyrell, causing my opponent to reveal a new plot. That plot would have to come from his plot deck, so could he choose the plot that has already been chosen (but not revealed)? Physically, its separate from his deck at this point, or should be distinguishable at least, since it cannot be changed. What would happen to the plot he has already chosen if he has to choose another? Does it return to the plot deck? does it go in the used pile?

I want to use this action window to create as much chaos in multiplayer as possible. If it works, I can use out-of-house Bran Stark to burn through city plots in my baratheon deck.

To summarize that particular thread:

1. The plot is chosen for the normal plot phase reveal. Call it "Plot X."

2. Dragonstone Port allows effects to be activated before the plots are revealed.

3. Margaery is used in this new window created by Dragonstone Port. When their effects resolve, "Plot X" cannot be chosen and revealed for their character effects because it has already been chosen for another (pending) reveal effect - the normal plot phase reveal. You can reveal any other card in the plot deck through their abilities, which will be revealed before the one you have already chosen is revealed.

4. After you're done with your reindeer games, you reveal "Plot X."

There isn't a whole lot of abuse you can do with this particular combo of Dragonstone Port and Margaery. The plot that you choose before the extra window will still be revealed. You still have to reveal every plot in your deck at some point, so you aren't burning through them any faster with Dragonstone Port than you would normally with Margaery or Bran. I suppose you can get another bite at the apple, so to speak, in terms of the extra power Dragonstone Port could get you by naming the correct plot, but that's about it. It's not a very effective "second bite" because you will have to name the plot you're trying to get power for before your opponent chooses the one they will reveal with Margaery. As such, they have a lot of control over whether you get power or not. Note also that Bran doesn't offer you any chance to claim extra power with Dragonstone Port. He only lets you reveal a new plot card and the Port only lets you claim power when your opponent reveals the named plot.

However, there is one loophole with Dragonstone Port that, to my knowledge, no one has ever picked up on before. If done right, it will guarantee that you claim power with it. Can you figure it out?

Are we talking about Joust or Melee?

Hmm, CS Varys was the first thing that came to mind, but it only works in Melee. The idea is that everyone chooses their plots, you announce the name of your plot, and then you swap plots with someone. Now everyone reveals plots and you get a power since one of your opponents reveals a plot you named and chose. Unless plots are chosen again for some reason after making the swap (I don't see how and why that would happen), this should guarantee you a power every time.

....And I'm certain I just found the "loop hole" you are referring to gran_risa.gif

The only way I can think of is if you know what plot they are going to reveal. Which would be possible if you have already gone through 13 rounds, so they only have one choice left and you know what it has to be.

I wonder what would happen if I tried that at GenCon...

A good old fashioned beating would think.
