Are the Order factions underpowered?

By Krabat2, in Warhammer Invasion Deck Building

Hi everyone,

I just wanna to emphasis who much I am disappointed of the Order Factions. First of all, I can only speak of the cards in the base set plus the Assalt on Ulthuan expansion. My friend plays the Destruction Factions while I play the Order Factions. In the base set I really like the Dwarves, they are tough and have power along with some nice tricks. But I don't like Empire that much, they are not really powerful and their main trick (and only one) seems to be "Judgement of Verena" + "Will of the Electors", although I have to admit, the combo wins a lot of games. On the other side the orcs seem to be the strongest faction: they are incredibly fast with lots of power, are able to destroy ALL creatures and all of opponents support cards, which is really evil. The Chaos has the corruption theme along with the direct damage spells, which is really annoying, but also slow (don't get me wrong, Empire is much slower, then again the HighElves are by far the slowest).

All in all with only the base set Orcs+Chaos vs. Dwarves+Empire seem somehow ok, but now the Elves of two factions joined in through the expansion, the balance is broken (at least in my opinion). The Dark Elves with their 2-cost scout units (Shades) and the hit-point-reducing Vile-Sorceress are really mean. On the other side the High Elves are able to heal A LOT, but what should be healed with their units only having a very few hitpoints? If the HighElves damage their own units only one Vile Sorceress is sufficient in most cases to destroy that unit while the heal effect does nothing against the hit-point reduction. The HighElves faction is the slowest faction and not capable of delivering enough damage to the opponent. Their units are weak and their actions and abilities don't compensate for their low hitpoint units.

The main problem of my disappointment is with 3 faction to choose from, I only like one of them to play with. My friend and I both roll a die to determine the faction we play and in 2 from 3 rolls that leads to me, showing a grumpy face.

SO, do you felt the same when playing with base set + first expansion and does it get more balanced with the chapter packs? I am curious for your opinions!

kind regards
Krabat

Yes and I really feel the game is getting more balanced as the time pass.

At start I was feeling the same then the opposite with the new support, units and tactics add on both side (and there were only Order deck in the top 8 world shampionship) and now i really feel like the last sets are going to balanced that again.

But I also think that at the moment they have made good things in term of deck building, the creation phase and the tweaking phase of a deck are really more and more interesting in my opinion.

It's also important to understand that the less you have differents cards, the more one card can have a great impact on the power of a faction and the more you have differents cards, the less one card have a great impact on the power of a faction.

Have you really found this to be the case? I mean that healing happens. I certainly haven't. Usually it's defend and die or die to something non-combat related. Only thing that sorta wounds and doesn't kill is the Loremaster's Forced. As a result, all the healing stuff has been since tossed from the HElf deck, there is just so little use, it's of no value really.

Thanks for your opinions. So, with the battle packs I hope it will get better in terms of the balancing. As for the HighElves I meant they have several ways of healing , but little use for it. All in all I think order should get better tricks to compensate for the lack of direct damage.

At the moment Order seems quite overpowered. At the european championsship we had a lot of empire and dwarf decks. These are quite strong. Also High Elf indirect damage decks are gaining since March of the Damned. The High Elfes healing ability gets much better if you combine the elves with the lizardmen.

Pick up March of the Damned and make a Dwarven Slayer deck. Then tell us what you think happy.gif
