Thank you Deathwatch for finally providing stats for a Commissar. Now to examine them, dissect them and figure out how to get all those talents, skills and advances in Dark Heresy!
Yay, at last, behold, A Commissar.
where are those stats ? what did I missed ?
Last page of the book. One of hte characters from the intro adventure is a Commissar.
Looks to be about a Rank 5 Arch Militant from Rogue Trader who rolled lousy starting stats.

You know that NPCs are simply an assortment of stats, skills, talents and gear chosen by the writer, rather than built in any way resembling the manner in which player characters are created. I really don't think you'll get anything worthwhile from trying to extrapolate a more detailed depiction of it, or at least, nothing more than you'd be able to come up with yourself starting from scratch...
Maybe you'll get a Commissar in "Only War".

Well I did create an entire Commissar Career Path a whiles back.
Its a shame that what you say is true, as the NPCs seem to always make more sense and seem more balanced and free of that crappy rank/career system.

I think it's a good first guideline though. And I don't find the stats to be bad at all. WS/BS are very good for a non-astartes. WP is impressive.
Don't compare to player characters, compare to other NPC stats. Plus it's a young Commissar on his first tour of duty (ie of low Rank game term-wise).
Alex
Yes it is a great place to start, or at least get a basis for what skills/talents would be listed on an game "official" commissar profile and how to build it the fastest. Ive been going through the origin path and careers for Rogue Trader and so far found a combination added to a rank 5 Arch-Militant that has purchased a lot of characteristic increases and treated every elite advance as a 500XP purchase and was able to build Commissar Falco, provided he had crappy stat dice rolls at character creation.
I am just using Falco as a reference point for revising some of my own home made commissar material to make it fit more into current rules/versions of the "core" system (being RT, DH or DW).
Well SOMETHING has to come out a year from now. It can't all come out immediately.

Obviously shattercake, that is true.
Doesnt mean I like the fact I have to wait a year for a book the MAY have commissars or not in it.

Fair Quote, I'd be frustrated too if I had to wait a year for the thing I've always wanted! Then again, I wonder how a Commissar would function in a normal game. I mean, as non-gaunt copies.
Aren't there rules in the Inquisitors Handbook for generating a commisar?

Simply. As Commissar Cain copies!

Chaliced Commissars are not quite true Commissars. They are simply Calixis PDF individuals given the rank of Commissar to make Marius Hax feel powerful, but they are not true Commissars and true Commissars dislike them and have a tendency to execute them.
Plus Chaliced Commissars cannot operate in active warzones.
Really hoping for official Commissar rules too. So hopefully this bodes something is coming.
And definitely second how the Chaliced Commissars aren't anything like the real thing, especially since they're just promoted bullies compared to the real thing which has an entire career of it.
Commissars would be of the Scholar Progenium background and have served time in a Storm Trooper regiment (if fluff is to be taken at face value).
Given the above information, you could extrapolate a pretty good Commissar starting package.
Ah.. I see that you are the one that created the Commissar on Dark Reign. Good stuff.

I never got the impression Ciaphas Cain served in one. He made it sound like right out of school to perhaps the time in a cadet reginment to the artillery group he fought with.
Two of the three most famous Commissars were never storm troopers. That being Cain and Gaunt.
Some commissars come from teh Storm Troopers, most come straight from Commissar School (Read Cains's Last Stand)

Yep, they are what kept me playing Guard for many many years. I would never field less than 3 Commissars in any game. Usually I would field the max.
If there is not an option to play a commissar in Only War that would be a pretty sad book. It would almost be like not putting Grey Knights in Daemon Hunter . Sure it's a drag to wait a year for it but I'd be willing to bet a dollar there will be Commissar characters.
If I had my way it would be the first of the years releases. I can definitly wait on the rest of the books even if I do want them all.
Since the preview for the Ecclesiarchy one makes it sound like there'll be alternate ways of 'creating' players and advancing, instead of the current path system, I'm hoping the Guard book will be especially good.
Yeah, the Challiced Commissars remind me of those PDF Commissars in the Gaunt's Ghost book during the siege of Vervunhive on Verghast.
They were generally portrayed as almost psychopathic bullies and clowns.
Not really all that inspiring, in my opinion. Especially for a player who really likes Commissars.

Yeah.
And seriously, of all the 'classes' right now, it's probably the priest one that best represents a Commissar! When it should be some sort of combination of that and Guardsman.
