If a a new investigator is drawn instead of one who retired, does he get the retiring player's trophies? I'm thinking he should.

I'm with you on this point. On the DH Rules it's stated (pag. 6) "draws a new investigator as though his old investigator had been devoured. However, effects that trigger from having an investigator devoured (such as Glaaki’s ability to raise the terror level by 2 when an investigator is devoured) do not trigger when an investigator retires."

I've always thought this implies you carry over the trophies

I'm copy pasting this from another thread regarding Join the Winning Team.

Holy hell... I just realized how powerful that card is (in a non-competitive sense). It allows for multiple uses of Professor Rice or William Bain. Crazy, yeah?

Well... It gets crazier, because you can clear it by trading it to another investigator. Basically if you can control the terror level in a Bain game, you have near infinite time. And with Rice, clues up the wazoo. Heh...

I'm going to ask if this "sacrifice" can mean return to the box instead of discard...

when you cast the spell 'summon monster' do you fight or evade that monster immediately, since it's cast during the movement phase?

Just an observation , and I think it's legitimate, but if Rex Murphy is the first player in a Quachil game, and he passed his personal story,he's entitled to some special treatment for a price, since he gains two clue tokens each turn and may discard them to avoid drawing cards from the dust deck.

It's ironic that Rex Murphy has a curse following him around everywhere, but he can make it essentially impossible for Quachil Uttaus to follow him.

Maybe it's something not worth of being FAQed, in case apologies, but... is the "entering R'lyeh" in Silas personal story a continuous effect? I mean, may I discard the Messenger to avoid being devoured? I remember you aren't allowed to survive a devouring while LiTaS with Yoggie as the AO, but the wording on Silas personal story seems to imply something different (I mean, it's not written "whenever Silas IS in R'lyeh", but "enters")

I think the devourment in Silas' case is self-inflicted-he sacrifices himself. I'm not sure the Messenger can save him from that.

But since you've brought this up, when can the Messenger be used exactly? Can the player be saved by him from Quachil's killer card, Ghatanothoa's face during the game, survive one extra round in final battle when all his team mates die? I'm guessing the latter is forbidden.

I was not referring to the Pass condition of his personal story, but to the Fail one. It happened a couple of days ago, when he drew an encounter in Lost Carcosa that sent him to R'lyeh for a short walk, and I was wondering what would have happened with the Messenger as Ally.

Well in my own interpretation, Silas is devoured because he succumbs to his tainted blood and becomes a Deep One. The Messenger won't save you from that...

I agree with Tibs. The location is what causes him to be devoured, not some unlucky encounter. That's a continous condition. Same thing with Amanda Sharpe's failed PS.

It's interesting though that if Leo Anderson failed his PS, if he discards the messenger, he would be devoured anyway.

Now what about Quachil and Ghatanothoa?

Also, unrelated, but I just realized that Jenny Barnes and Hank Samson's passing their personal stories grants them allies of sorts, so I guess those cards can be discarded just like usual allies if the situation calls for it(like against Atlach-Nacha). Is that correct?

@ Zealot: always played this way with Hank & Jenny

Thank you to both of you for the precisation about Silas. It definitely has sense!

Gloria Goldberg is in OW.

She draw 4 cards not her color, the fifth is ok (let's call it "Good Card"). Then, using her ability, she's looking for the second card. Before getting the right color, she draws the "reshuffle-one".

Should i reshuffle every card except "Good Card"? Or something else?

Sounds quite obvious, but wan't to be sure.

There's a reshuffle card in the gate encounters? I thought the only card that instructs you tto reshuffle was the the Story Continues... in the Mythos deck.

Nope, there is even a card in the Gate deck. This one here

Is that from the Lurker expansion? I never encountered it.

I think it's from the base game!

It's from the base game.

Clearly you have more gaming ahead, especially if you've never seen The Stars Are Right yet gran_risa.gif .

Sorry for derailing this topic.

Seriously, I've played this game for several years so many times and have never seen this card. I'm almost tempted to go through the now humongous gate deck in order to find it.

Nah...

Maybe it's only exclusive to the 2nd edition. I have the 1st edition of the base game.

Overall, I find the reshuffle cards pretty impractical and annoying, considering the volume of the decks where they're hidden. I split the Gate and Mythos decks into three smaller decks during setup, drawing from the top of each deck in order, and any cards that are discarded , are gone for good.

On a related note, I also roll a die to determine the Arkham encounter card drawn. Makes it less predictable, seeing how many times the top cards came up the same as in a previous session.

Anyhow, back to the previously raised question: I think you should keep the valid encounter card, shuffle the rest, and then draw regularly until you get the second valid encounter.

Sorry I missed this thread but I resently posted some questions about Flying monsters and Sky areas. The link is HERE. aplauso.gif

Can the Red Sign be used to ignore Elusive? Seems like a timing issue, but I'm not sure about when "combat" actually "starts" with an Elusive Monster, nor about the usage of Spells with/without hands outside/inside combat.

According to the wiki page : http://www.arkhamhorrorwiki.com/Darrell_Simmons Darrel should draw 2 cards when having an encounter in town.

Shouldn't it be "should draw an extra card"? Because sometimes, an encounter says "go to X and draw 2 cards (even 4 for one of them)"... Darrel shouldn't use his ability if it's not "draw an extra encounter card".

Finn Edwards and Fine Clothing. Am I right in thinking that this is an item that Finn will never lose? Unless, I suppose, he chose to allow it.
