Combining big expansions/Counting the number of investigators

By A. Harbinger, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I recently bought Innsmouth Horror and the rules say that when you combine Innsmouth Horror with another big expansion (Dunwich or Kingsport) you should count the number of investigators for purposes like number of open gates and stuff as one less per additional expansion board after the first one. So I'm curious, is EVERYTHING affected by this? Resp. what isn't? What about the successes the investigators need to hurt the GOO during the final battle?

Everything except successes needed to hurt the GOO during final battle.
