Field Spikes

Hi again.

Field Spikes is a location that says: "Challenges: kneel Field Spikes to choose an attacking character with STR 2 or lower. Its controller chooses either to remove that character from the challenge, or to kill that character after the challenge resolves".

If I have a "cannot be killed" char with STR 2 (for example Small Paul) and I attack with him a player who controls and activates Field Spikes, what happens? Am I forced to remove Small Paul from the challenge? Or can I choose to attack anyway, and Small Paul won't be killed at the end of the challenge?

If the character is CBK you are not allowed to choose it to die. Note that you are not choosing "to attack anyway and then kill the character;" you are choosing to kill the character - just with a delayed resolution.

You cannot choose the CBK to die, so you MUST choose to remove it from the challenge.

Interesting, I had never thought of this card in those terms before. I'd always assumed it was more like CBK and Wildfire interacting.

Out of curiousity then, would this mean that Field Spikes would impose a "cannot be saved effect" because if the character was to be saved he would not be "killed?"

Or does that only apply with CBK who cannot be chosen to die?

And if the charcter becomes "cannot be killed" after choosing? My opponent activate Field Spikes on a normal char. I choose to attack anyway. Then, before the challenge resolves (ex. after defenders are declared), I make him "cannot be killed". Should work, right?

Yes. If the character is not CBK when Field Spikes is triggered, you are certainly allowed to choose the "kill when the challenge resolves" option. And if the character then becomes CBK before the end of the challenge, it will ignore the effect when it comes time to do the actual killing.
