Zealous Deckhand

By Ikaros, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi.

I'm back :)
A couple of question about Zealous Deckhand, which says "Response: discard Zealous Deckhand from play (cannot be saved) to save a GJ character from being killed. Then, that character claims 1 power".

What if I have ZD and another char in play, when Valar Morghulis is revealed? ZD and the other char become moribund at the same time, then I have an opportunity to save them. Can I discard ZD to save the other char?
I think the key passage is pag.20 in the FAQ: "Although considered in play, a Moribund card cannot be removed from play (or targeted to be removed from play) again by any effect or any attempt to pay a cost..."
So I think I cannot discard a moribund ZD to save another moribund char, but I friend of mine is sure about the contrary.

Same thing, abou a 2 claim military challenge lost. I have ZD and another char. Again, can I target ZD and the other char to satisfy claim, then discard ZD to save the other char?

Thank you.

No, that's wrong. First you have the opportunity to save, and then any cards not saved become moribund. So you can use his ability.

Exactly. The whole point of a save is to stop the character from ever going into Moribund in the first place. So neither the ZD nor the other character are moribund when you have the opportunity to save.

Remember that when a character becomes moribund, it is because it has been killed, discarded, returned to hand, etc. And if something has been killed, discarded, etc., it is too late to save it. That should help you remember that the save opportunity comes first because a saved character was never killed. If it was, all of its attachments would be discarded even if it was saved.

Yep! Now I got it! Thanks.
