Strategy Discussion: Nakoruru

By NintendoMan, in UFS Deck Building

So to much the delite of many Ruru fanboys, including myself, a new Nakoruru was released just in time before rotation whiped out her other forms. So where does this new Ruru rank towards the side of its amazing Promo version or to the side of its awful set version?

This new version of Ruru is very solid with stats of 7HS 19v and a symbol spread of Life, Good and Water. Its abilities let it focus on things the promo was great at; opponents field disruption. Although as opposed to the promo this time you will be doing that disruption on your opponents turn more often than yours. Ruru3 is great with reversals especially those with multiples since it allows for more foundation destruction so thus Feline Spike is an obvious choice.

Sadly for Ruru its Life exclusive ability is counter-intuitive with its first ability becasue of the lack of Life reversals; essentially only her UR from this set is a playable life reversal for block three. Also Ruru's speed pump ability would be SO much better if Deceptive look around was still present in the meta. So either way, as of right now, it seems as though players cant use both of Ruru3's abilities to their full extent.

So what is Ruru best at? Tempo Control!!! different version same hat. With a multi symbol build to utilize Feline Spike and other efficient reversals alongside with Life's tools of Spirit or Athens, Forethought, The Gorgeous Team and her foundation support from this set your oppenent will be at a huge disadvantage and have to try to build for that extra turn and not attack to not be decimated by her ability and be looking at no foundations on their side of the field with and abundence of Forethoughts and SoA on Ruru's side.

So this Ruru is looking pretty good for the next block. Not as good as her promo but can definately still impact the meta. Anyone got any ideas for her that I missed?

I've started using her in my water reversal deck. I've found shadow blade to be one hell of a way to control the tempo of the game with her. aside from that rejection can be looped like no one's buisiness and tends to help with cards like blind loyalty and annu mutsube.

Most definatley Shadow Blade is awesome with her. The ability to affect 4 Total opponents foundations is amazing.

I completely forgot about Blind Loyalty, the onlything I dont like about it is that you cant use drifter with it in a water build

6 speed mids after Naks' E, lifegain/redux abilities on all of them... what's not to like? Certainly playable, although if you asked me how you deal with a tank or mill deck I'd draw a blank. Midnight Pleasure or Gravity Storm?

Father Bull is obscene. Shadow Blade + FB hurts my soul.

Thats exactly what I meant, the damage output is just not high enough, if Deceptive Look were still legal itd be fine but those reversals just fail in comparison with Spike (who destroys 3 Foundations if each does damage), Shadow and Darkness Blade.Just pecking away with 3-4 damage attacks is not easy especially with all the R hate out there.

Maybe a Good version would be best to utilize Darkness Blade + Father Bull + FIght or FLight. That at least solves the damage output problem somewhat.

I wuv Ruru, always have.

This incarnation though, I'm not sold on.

In order to use Ruru's devastating E, you have to:

  1. Leave Ruru ready on an opponents turn.
  2. Have the opponent attack.
  3. Block the attack and/or use shenanigans ranging from Annu Mutsube to Huge Appetite.
  4. Successfully play your reversal.

I know other people will like this character, but I'd much rather have a character who plays at their own pace, not relying on opponents attacks and blocking. In this way, the new Chun Li and Mika are more proactive than Ruru and I kind of like that proactivity.

Even if Ruru's E: is really, really good.

A fully multipled kitty spike will only destroy one foundation, you cannot use Nako's E on the multiple copies, since they are not played as a reversal (will be asking about it in the Q&A forums) but kitty spike stun + chichiushi/fatherbull nako E = 3 hand picked commits and 2 extra.
