Tully Toolbox

By Eldil, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I built this deck for my friend, Nick. He only has the Core Set, Lords of the Winter, and the first three chapter packs of A Time of Ravens, so I built it only out of those cards, and so far, he tells me it's pretty effective.

I call it Tully Toolbox because I meant to build a deck that was Stark/Tully Aggro (lots of threats, lots of synergy) with a splash of Control to disable combos.

Here it is:

Explanation:

Characters: The characters in this deck are two-thirds Tullys, and the rest of them are staple Starks. In this deck, I think the Blackfish is your most important character (he has renown, he gives draw, and he has Tully synergy), so putting Nymeria on him as soon as possible is important (and should be easy as soon as you get a "Wolf Dreams" event card in your hand). I also included 2 different versions of a unique character (Catelyn Stark), which I normally wouldn't advise, but in this case I think it works. If you get Core Set Catelyn Stark, you should probably play her, and then play the Lords of Winter Catelyn as a dupe. But if you get the Lords of Winter Catelyn in your hand first, you can go on have her popping in and out of play until the Core Set version eventually arrives in your hand (and they're both Tullys). I also included the Lords of Winter Bran Stark because, in this deck, you have a decent chance of activating his ability, and that provides your opponents a huge disincentive against running intrigue challenges against you.

Locations: This is pretty basic: 12 income/discount locations and 3 effect locations. This deck doesn't need influence, so I opted for Godswood over Northern Fiefdoms, and kept the number of limited locations down to 6, so to allow for a strong early game.

Attachments: I included attachment versions of all the unique direwolves (except Lady, who only exists in character form). With "Wolf Dreams," you should be able to potentially match up the Stark kids with their direwolves for extra synergy, or you could just dump them all onto Sansa Stark for the draw, and then use Grey Wind's ability to drop your opponent's strength. There are also five control attachments (3 x Frozen Solid, 1 Milk of the Poppy, 1 Bowl of Brown) to disable your opponent's combos and key abilities out of play.

Events: This is pretty simple: keep cycling Endless Endurance, and use Wolf Dreams to link direwolves to key characters. Bran the Builder's Legacy should help put either Riverrun, Frozen Outpost, or a Godswood in your hand when you need it.

I'd say that in a Tully deck, you need 3 copies of the Blackfish. He's worse (for your opponent) than the Red Viper if he gets going - pretty much all your characters wouldn't kneel to attack, and he has a very nifty draw ability. I'd also much rather play LoW Robb than Core Set Robb - core set Robb is just too fragile at Str 2. Yes, you have direct kill, but compared to Strength Buffing, Renown Lords of Winter Robb, I don't think he's worth it.

Crown of Winter is a must, I'd say. +2 Str and attached character is immune to events and character abilities is great protection for your Blackfish/Catelyn/Robb
