Stack Resolution Quesion

By fryguy49, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

I have a question about how the stack operates in Warhammer Invasion.

Case 1: I have a unit of high elves who have just had fatal damge put on them because of combat. After damage has been dealt can I cast a Tactic from my hand and heal the damage off of them?

Case 2: A unit of High Elves are targeted by Flames of Tzinch and received fatal damage. After the spell has resolved is there an oportunity to play tactics to try to heal the card to prevent its destruction?

Case 3: A unit of Dark Elves has taken fatal damage due to combat. Before they go to the graveyard can I sacrifce them to Slave Pens?

I apologize if these questions have been asked before. Thanks for the help.

No, they are dead before the Action window opens.

No, again, they are dead.

If the damage has been applied, no, it's too late. However, there is an Action Window after Assign Damage step in combat, you could sacrifice a unit for Slave Pen then, might as well, if the unit is going to die anyway, right?

Hi, Dam is correct but to qualify question 3 so you understand how it differs from 1 and 2... Damage in combat is first Applied, then Assigned. So:

1) Assign 3 damage to target unit (you place 3 damage tokens NEXT to the card)

2) Opportunity to play actions

3) Apply 3 damage to target unit (move the 3 tokens ON to the card, and the card is dead, goes to discard pile)

4) Opportunity to play actions

If you sacrificed the unit in step 2, then the tokens cannot move on to the card in step 3 because the card is already gone. That damage is wasted. You cannot wait until step 4 to sacrifice because the unit will die in step 3.

Healing does not work in this case in either step 2 or 4, because in step 2 the damage is not on the card yet, and in step 4 the card is already gone (dead).
