Living Campaign?

By Wolfbrother Magnus, in Deathwatch

Any possibility of generating a living campaign for this RPG?

Would you mind being a bit more specific in what you mean with "Living Campaign"? A campaign organized by FFG? One combining several player groups?

I'm loading up a shotgun with Holy ammo, just to be on the safe side. You never know how unliving 'living' really is...

If they ever made a living campaign for DW or one of their other lines of RPG, I would kill it. The reason is that the Living RPG players in my town are completely overbearing and socially uncooth. So I would recommend never even suggesting that.

Not that I particularly care if they have a living RPG, but just because you have a bad experience doesn't mean you should prevent other people from doing something that you could easily just not participate in. Maybe tell the people in your town to stop being jerks?

Tried that actually. Rather nicely, as my FLGS owner thought. The issue is that some people do not care if they hog all the tables, are loud, foul mouthed (now I have no issues with language myself, but some of things they say are just...well stupid.) men and women who most likely live in their parents basements. The fact that they disrupt other near by games does not seem to bother them, though it does bother the other players. The Owner would tell them to go somewhere else, but as there is nowhere else he allows them to stay. Personally I thought it was funny when their game master told off some other players, and the other players walked over and picked him up. Took him outside and put the screws to him for a few minutes. The rest of the day was fine.

Of course Our local cop was in the area, and as he knew about the group and he himself, on his off-duty time he was a gamer and so had dealt with the people, he claimed not to see anything but the dude tripping and falling several times while he was drunk. (Funny thing is that the GM was Drunk as they go to Old Chicgo before the game.)

The suggestion for a living campaign was maybe a series of modules that followed the storyline of say Horus Heresy or one of the many other great stories in the 40k universe. i was fortunate to be involved in a living campaign one year and had alot of fun. The gear you acquired from the modules came in the form of certificates. Which were signed by the GM who ran the module. They would have a regular run every 2 weeks and on certain conventions would be a major event.

Yea, it sounds like the people who do Living Campaigns in your area Ranek are just children in adult bodies who dont understand the meaning of the word community as in: Dont burn your player base from other people if they ever want to branch out and get a life.

With that said, a living campaign for DW or technically for the entire 40k rpg line as they are connected would actually be interesting. Incredibly annoying to put together due to the fact that you would need steady adventures and almost an entire new line every 6 months. Or, you could go with a massive story arc with GM's in cahoots and posting up what they are working on for adventures and campaigns and all together weaving a storyline that could encompass all the games and lead to something very extrodinary.

Hell, I think I would be up to helping design or participating in one as a GM mainly for the reason that this would be very fun to do.

so are we talking about a LARP right?

That would be a nice little bit of information to know. ;)

They're a cool concept, but sadly I've never seen one I've enjoyed. Some people love them and hey, power to them, but I could never get into it. I've tried a few times at conventions, but the experiences have largely been the same. Maybe it's been bad luck or something, I couldn't say.

As far as a Deathwatch LARP? I could imagine one putting together paintball guns or nerf guns in bolter form, but man oh man, I don't even want to think of the costuming costs. sorpresa.gif

That doesn't seem like an overtly bad idea to me ("Living Campaign"), just hard to organise and, well, subject to much nerd rage or apologeticism.
