Additional Talent for the Space Wolves Table

By tkis, in Deathwatch House Rules

After taking a look at various Editions of the Space Wolves Codex, i decided to add the Counter Attack Talent with the cost of 500 Pts, to their Chapter Advacement table. This both underlines their close combat affinity which is not represented in the Chapter Table, and is much more in accord with their Codex and Background

Counter attack is very high up talent in all the games, I wouldn't just add it for 500xp, I would say no less than 1.500xp

Taking both Black Templar and Blood Angels Tables as precedence for high tier talents i would say 500 is fine, besides the idea is to make counter attack easily available to space wolves, as it is one of their signature abilities in the tabletop. It is not a wish to buff the Space Wolves, or give them additional love, as the matter of fact i severely dislike the chapter, just my take to bring them much more in line with the backround and abilities available to them in the tabletop. Even with this talent being relatively cheap, they pale against Storm Wardens or Blood Anges in close combat prowess.

Okay I stand corrected, the Blood Angels Assassins Strike costs 500xp....perhaps make Counter Attack 600 or 800 xp since it possibly grants an extra attack

I'm not convinced that counter attack would be the most appropriate though it doesn't seem especially Space Wolfy as the it's doesn't work at all like the counter attack special rule that Space wolves get in the TT.

Berserk Charge, Double Team both seem to work. I'm sure there's more or maybe one need knocking up for the task.

Counter Attack seems appropriate in my mind. In both DW and Tabletop, Counter-attack grants (depending upon the skill/capabilities of the space wolves involved) an extra attack against a foe assaulting the space marine. The only real quibble would be that DW grants it throughout an entire combat while Tabletop grants it for only the first round.

Berserk Charge and Double Team would also be excellent additions, in my mind, as would Two Weapon Wielder. The greenest (whitest?) of Space Wolf Battle Brothers begin as Bloodclaws, Swiftclaws, and the like, generally wielding multiple weapons, capable of fierce and horrific charges, and a dangerous foe to charge into combat with.

I didn't miss something, did I? What specialists besides Assault Marines get Two-weapon Wielder?

I don't think you missed it. I really wish both of the Two-Weapon Wielder Talents were available on the General Space Marine Advances. They should cost a bit more than the Assault Marine pays (like, 800 or so) and be placed at a higher Rank (2 or 3), but they need to be there.

They do seem similar but there are distinct differences, firstly in table top you get an extra attack for charging (in DH you could often have less). The equivalent talent would be to be able to charge people (with the bonuses for that) when they charge you but the specifics need thrashing out.

Secondly though, and more importantly it means that the SW character needs to be able to parry to make use of it making it more of fencing type and penalising axes, power fists, lighning claws. And when a space Viking doesn't want an axe there's something wrong.

Two weapon weilder is another good one though.

Otherwise just use an elite advance

Good argument for that too, of course you would hope that they have calmed down a bit since their blood claw days, and they does start to infringe on BA MO.

Thank you all for the input, i guess i will still stick to Counter attack at 500, as it still does the best job translating the ferocious you get close to hit them, so they will hit you back attitude, and is easily prolifierated with the respective low cost. I am still interested in the discussion though and would be happy if people provide even more ideas and alternatives.
