Imperial World character is heading towards Astropath Transcendent, and the Birthright is giving us a bit of a hiccup. The choice selected is In Service to the Throne (Tithed) to represent the Black Ship journey to becoming an Astropath. This provides a Common Lore, which will be Common Lore (Adeptus Astra Telepathica) - letting the character start with it at +10. Literacy will be taken as the first of the two choices of Skills or Talents. The final choice provided by this Birthright is a little more murky. The weapon talents seem wrong, and so does Drive, Tech-Use, Survival, and Navigation (Surface). That leaves Medicae. Is it reasonable that an Astropath would be trained in tending to injuries during their formative training? Perhaps providing long-term care to those Astropaths that didn't come through the Soul-Binding so well?
Birthright choices for an Astropath Transcendent
Eh, nevermind. In Service to the Throne (Born to Lead) works out a bit better with Command - useful for leading a choir - and Scholastic Lore (Bureaucracy) to help him with the Administratum.
A rule I use on the origin chart is I allow players to either swap out one option along their path, or jump to an option once along a path.
I would swap out service to the throne with unnatural origin - tainted by the warp, which seems much more inline with an Astropath. The taint could represent his journey on the black ship.
For an even weirder option, I looked at the possibility of a Forge World Astropath Transcendent that had Unnatural Origins (False-Man) along with Witch-Born (Proven to be Pure). Essentially the Adeptus Mechanicus were cloning psykers. The successful ones (like this character) went on to become Astropaths, while the failures were recycled as fuel for the Astronomican.
