[Input Requested/Pricing] Drive Nailer and others need a new price, me thinks

By Gregorius21778, in Dark Heresy

Hi there,

it is me again, ranting over prizes that do not seem to match. I know that I upset a lot of people with this. Feel free to ignore me happy.gif

While I am preparing a session for tomorrow (opening of BrutalLament) I flip through the IH and look for primitive weapons for a mob. Found the Drive Nailer. Found out it has the same price as the Drusus Prime Las Weapon. Even the same availability. Seems wrong.

Even if I take into account that not everybody might be allowed to buy a Drusus Prime, the fact that a piece tool-level-technology is same price as a laser weapons bothers me.

What I am looking for is a suggestion for a new, lower price for the Drive Nailer. I am actually thinking about 25 thrones or perhaps 20. Any thoughts? Thanks!

By the way: same thing with the "Impaler" and the "Scrap Canon" of IH. 100 and 150 respective, for a primitive weapon build from scratch and scrap. For Emporers sake, the ganger buying a Scrap Canon could go for a Minerva-Aegis instead (same price, plus it is easier to get hands on a Minerva...)

I've never noticed those before, interesting point. However, I must disagree about the "easier to get hands on a Minerva" part. Building your own weapon, or using something that isn't necessarily a weapon (common practices for gangers) will always be easier for gangers because they aren't actually purchasing the weapon. When one buys a weapon, especially one of higher tech, one has to enter the massive bureaucracy of the Imperium. Gun permits must be attained, and that means background checks, In addition, many guns are not available for public use (as in the case of fully automatic weapons in the USA, no civilian may legally own one unless they get the approval of the governor of their state, or some such red tape). So while the costs may be the same, the actual availability of the weapon (for a ganger) will not be the same as the listed Availablity. This makes perfect sense because the Availability listed in the books for a specific gun will be the Availablity for an agent of the Inquisition.

All of this being said, some gangs will have las weapons because they are powerful enough to bribe/blackmail/otherwise influence people (such as weapons dealers or cops). Either that or they take the weapons by force (raids on warehouses, interceptions of shipments, etc).

The one that irks me is that a Chrono costs so much more than a Mircobead or Dataslate. How can a common watch cost more than a Bluetooth or iPad...?

Hi Daemyn,

thanks for the reply and for sharing your approach to the availability stats of the core rules (= not what a commoner; but tailored for an acolythe).

Any suggestions on the pricing if you would assume that these are not "Inquisitor shop prices" but ... well, what the average citizen has to to pay? If he would go and wand to fetch something like this?
