Discussion: Air Patch

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS General Discussion

I thought I'd spark up the good ol' patch discussions while they're still fresh, whats your thoughts on Air?

  • What characters do you think will dominate?
  • Block 2 or Block 3?
  • Ban Feline Spike?
  • Control or Aggro FTW?

When I run my Air patch tournament, I know that I'm going to be making it Block 3, as all my tournaments now are. I'm still on the fence about Feline Spike, I'll probably decide that once I see what other people are doing with it.

I think character-wise, that it's pretty open, especially with the new set. From Set 11 alone, you've got Chun-Li, Remy, Ralf, Guile, T. Hawk, Billy and Geese. Thats not to mention Felicia, Adon, Raphael, Taki, Talim, Yoshitora, Fio, Mignon, Soiree, Alba, Terry and god-forbid, the dreaded Hanzokick deck.

I'd like to say that aggro is going to win out on this one, but with little gems like Yoshi, Fio and Alba (or rather, Arrogance) and support like Chesters, Inhuman Perception, Tag Along and many others, I reckon it could go either way.

Personally, I'm torn between quite a few characters. Chun-Li appeals to me, although I've a feeling I've been beaten to the punch by my partner for her..., so I'm looking at either Remy, Raphael, Soiree or Talim. I'd run Soiree, but with all the ready-tech around in the meta, I wouldn't be surprised to see Greed's Influence turn up to rain on my parade, and Galactica Phantom Raph/Talim seems sinfully delicious :D

Hey joe.

For the air patch I'm for making it block 3, why?

Because otheriwse it'll be yun-seong fest and noone wants that really, not to mention all the other good air charcters in B2 (too tired to list em right now gran_risa.gif )

The following cards MAY cause concern.

Fei longs' kick

Feline spike.- easy kill

Arogance- plays around this resource symbol too easily.

Powerful style.- only with feline spike, creates kill in one turn environments in MY opinion.

Billiard player- :P

Lord of del makai- WAY too easy momentum gen. honestly prefer it if poeple had to use things like natural leader instead otherwise it could becoem a makai war.

NEW Alba- stops attack strings, seriously He's gonna be STRONG in thsi event.

Still with air there are alot fo problems and easy ways to kill, Hanzo, Alba and felicia play the tournament better than others with the only liable counters being KOF2006 terry and MAYBE yoshitora.

see for yourself- matches coudl end in 15 minutes or not at all preocupado.gif

other than alba, this going to be an agro fest. new taki, talim, ralph, hanzo kick, felicia, chun-li, and others are just so fast. other than arogance, i don't see games geting out of turn 2 0r 3. their are way to many one shots in this format.

6check Olexa. haxx, lots of momentum gen, spikes, battery, and ankou for a powerful attack.

I think the new Kilik is going to be a sleeper in this event because of his anti-momentum ways.

I don't know. i sort of see people leaning for Guile, Chun-Li, Taki, and Alba to name a few. Kilik may have momentum control, but it is not enough when you put it up against other characters who are in Air.

Morning Joe,

The Sheffield Air Patch, we're looking at uncommon/common format. The main culprit's for this one were Feline Spike, Chesters Backing, iSpin and Lord of the Makai.

Sagat in Air Patch with Chesters is horrendous. If he has one in play, he has four in play. Sadly the same goes for Sagat with Make a Difference.

Myself, if I can make it, I'll probably run Remy, his First F is too cool to pass up. If not Remy, I think I'd run Andrew Olexa, since I've previously build Felicia (don't want to rebuild) and other people have bagged Chun Li.

Nice. If the Hanzokixk deck isn't legal for my air patch then i'm soooooo using this! gui%C3%B1o.gif

I think the new Chun Li will be all over spiking on your opponents 2nd foundation every turn is kinda gross.

Not sure who I'll be using. Olexa, Remy, Alba, Sagat, Raphael, and *Felicia* all strike my fancy.

I think the new Charlie, Fio, Luise, new Guile, Yun-Seong, 8-hand Terry, Yoshitora, and maybe even promo Tam Tam might make a splash for this event. Or even *gasp* the new Zas =O

charlie? other than that i agree this will be a deverse format and agrro dominated. right now i am thinking about runing, Alba (if i get a couple more arogance before than), 30 atack taki (she is the only 30 atack deck i have built and i made her just to see if that many atacks would work), or felicia. it's definately going to be a spike fest, so sad i don't own any llorando.gif

I have absolutely no intrest in this patch if it's Block 2, otherwise it will just be Yun Seong gone wild...

Felicia FTK can out-do Yun-Seong.

Plus, Yun-Seong CAN get Tag Along'd in Air.

I'm considering some kind of Dancing Butterfly bullcrap with ::Guile:: as well, though I may land on ::Taki:: looping assorted big attacks for the win. I'm toying with the idea of a totally jank **Q-Bee** deck for this, with Light of Virtue for massive forced draw, and assorted cards to build the momentum necesssary to get the Soul Tokens to win the game via mill, as inspired by Chester.

And yeah, Charlie. Card pool clearing as the opponent generates momentum. Use of Crippling Strike's Charlie R, as well as Sonic Blade, doesn't hurt, either.

I'm surprised nobodys mentioned Fio using Ikari Warrior and Counter The Assault yet...

I've decided to go for Raphael in the end, using almost all Ranged attacks with damage pumped Dio-Cega's and Sonic Boom EXTRA, using his own speed boosts and The King Of Fighters/Terrestrial Heavy Machine Gun for hand clearance. I wanted to see if I could get Dio-Cega to actually work in a deck, as I think it's a card relaly worth running in the right deck if you can get a damage pumped one to hit (Thunderclap, Counter The Assault, Dark Messiah, another Dio-Cega) and I figured Raphael or Talim would be the best people to do this with. I've also made it so that all of my attacks (including the splits) are mid with mid blocks so that I can use Wind Dance after Raphael's done his bit. Not being too bothered about the prizes, I'm just after the fun factor with this one, and I really do think that this one might work after some tinkering :D I just need some more Sonic Boom EXTRA's....

After tinkering with the Bee, I've come to two conclusions:

1) If Deadly Swarm doesn't play the way I need it to, then there's literally no point in building this deck.

2) Chester can do this much better. He can literally turn one people with 3 copies of Power of the Light (sorry! Light of Justice is an attack, and Power of the Light is the actual action/Aattack split I was referencing earlier!), assuming he has a 60 card deck, and they have a 70 card deck. Granted, he needs 5 momentum, but he WILL win, with (if memory serves) three cards left in the deck to spare. Nothing like adding 35 cards to someone's momentum all at one time.

this event may be one of mills last hurahs(except promo bishamon). i think agro or alba will win this one, they are just faster then mill.

I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter... The math seems pretty tough though - Chester's F adds from the top of your deck, so you discard X cards, mill X cards, then draw 2X cards, plus a control check and put a card into your pool. So if you don't win, you almost certainly cycled first, and will probably have a hard time pulling out the win without much (any?) other forced draw stuff and only Q Bee's fairly weak support to help push them over the edge.

It almost seems to me that the best option against Chester is to wait until after the 2nd Power of the Light to play your Tag Alongs, so you have a huge hand and plenty of ways to push your win through... It'd be fun, but I have trouble seeing it beat a careful and knowledgeable opponent.

Yeah, I spent a good deal of time working it out...and then forgot about making control checks. Inherently flawed math is inherently flawed -_-

With the control check for the third Power of the Light, once it resolves you will have milled yourself. If you play 61 cards, you will have 1 card left in the deck, and you will have 35 in hand. Conveniently, so does the opponent. You then discard 35 with Chester and they lose.

Of course, that's assuming I didn't mess up somewhere along the way (again)...Q-Bee is a faster option, to be quite honest. Getting 5 Soul Tokens is a breeze, and you can force them to cycle pretty easily. They then add cards from the top of their deck to their momentum. And in Bee's case, cycling your deck actually helps quite a bit, since Predator's Instincts is the best way to get those Soul Tokens, and it requires you to discard momentum for it.

Like I said, not something I would actually play in the patch, but it sounds like fun. BUZZ BUZZ!

(please note that I WOULD play Chester for the Void patch, because that's a very, very easy win)

My suggestion is the bad Cammy foundations from Fight for the Future. The ones that force RFG cards and also force add cards to momentum. Unfortunately, the two best cards for this deck, Undercover and Scarred, don't have Air. I actually had a pretty cool mill Q-bee deck going that ran off of Air/Life
