XP for adventures

By savagedaniel, in Rogue Trader

Hello fellow GM for Rogue Trader,

I just started a group and we started on 'Into the Maw' from the core book. Already purchased several other adventures. My plan is to play 'whispers in the storm' and then the 'Lure of the Expanse' adventures.

So, my question: do you guys go with the XP points that the adventures and the rule book suggest?

In one session with lots of roleplaying we made it half through the first adventure and I awarded 500 XP. The next session would probably give the same amount and for completing the adventure there might be additional 1000 XP on top of that.

I had a look at the other adventures and it seems, that every adventure would probably result in gaining a rank for the Chars (getting about 2000 XP).

Isn't that too much and too fast? What are your experiences with that? How do you handle it?

Any advice appreciated!

Dan

One thing to remember about the "big" extra XP for completing an adventure is that it is for its successful completion. It is very possible your PCs barely survive an adventure without actually achieving their goals, which would deny them the 1000xp (or whatever) for successful completion.

And well, if your players manage to survive the myriad dangers of the grimdark future and still succeed I think the extra xp is quite justified.

If you still think they advance to quickly simply lowering the "per session" xp to 400 will make quite a difference in the long run.

When you consider that players have 30000 xp to spend maximal in their career path you must ask yourself how many sessions you want to play. If you give 1000 xp per session then you will have 30 sessions. If you play on a weekly basis, then your players will be finished in roughly half a year.

Me personally give up to 500 xp per session.
