Deathwatch Librarian armour colouring

By UncleArkie, in Deathwatch

I was reading up on the heraldry and deathwatch armour is black and silver and a librarian is a shade of blue with 1 part painted in his chapters colours, how does a deathwatch librarian paint his armour. Is it just like everyone else, is it blue with the left arm being silver and a black helmet. Any takers?

The illustration of the Deathwatch Librarian on pg. 80 suggests that their gorget, helm, backpack, and right kneepad will be blue, with the rest of the armour in the usual Deathwatch scheme (and the right shoulder in Chapter colours).

Yep, on the plywood field of battle it's always important to know you have to shoot. Mel Gibsons The Patriot proved that to us. ;)

Page 80 ^^ Sometimes the answer is staring you in the face. For some reason I just thought it was the SW colours :P

All Librarians, including Deathwatch Librarians undergo special training with the Ultramarines, and thus wear armor that is Ultramarine color based.

Erm... where did you hear that? Because that's never been the case in anything I've ever read. Librarians just wear blue armour (not in Deathwatch though, other than kneepads and the like) to differentiate themselves from other Marines, just as Apothecaries usually wear white, Chaplains wear black, and Techmarines wear red.

And it isn't all Librarians either, it's just Librarians from Codex Chapters. Non-Codex Chapters, as with most things, do whatever they feel like...

Note that Blood Angels and Dark Angels are not technically Codex Chapters, but they play along on this one. Except for the Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels, but he's a bit special.

Like, rides the "short Thunderhawk" into battle kind of special? happy.gif But, yeah. MILLANDSON ran it down pretty codex verbatim. Though, those "specialists" coloring will vary in shade from chapter to chapter somewhat, especially when a chapters base color is the same as the specialists typical coloring.

On a similar note: which takes precedence on the left shoulder, the Crux Terminatus or the Deathwatch pad? Not like it's even remotely relevant for anything, just curious.

Also, don't you think the spirit of the ancient power armour would take offence at switching chapter insignia shoulders? ;)

Perhaps the Crux Terminatus could be incorporated into the Deatwhatch 'I' shoulderpad?

Also, I wouldn't pin down the colours that hard, go with what looks cool for ya. On my part, I never much liked the eye-sore blue of the librarians, nor the Forced Red for Techmarines or the forced White for apothecaries. I liked it much better when they were still differentiated by details and insignia instead a bright 'here is am, the specialist, shoot me first, shoot me!' colour. Personally I use the 'specialist colours' as detailing but not as main theme. More along the lines of a different coloured arm or helmet rather than a full colouring.

Also, all GW figures of these specialist type marines have the appropriate iconography on the right shoulder pad sculpted in; however, Deathwatch marines are supposed to have their Chapter markings on the right shoulder since the left shoulder pad gets replaced by the Deathwatch iconography. This leaves those of us wanting to use the GW figures in our RPG to either mess about with a conversion or do what I'm doing and just include the appropriate Chapter symbol on a knee pad instead. I rationalize that members of the Deathwatch, although they all paint their armor predominantly black to unify them, have a little more latitude in personalizing their armor than the average rank and file marine of a Codex Chapter.
