I read that there were only 1000 of these produced and that 500 came with some hand-written paper that named someone. Were the 500 signed (or named, or whatever) copies in shrinkwrap or did they remove the shrinkwrap at FFG to insert the hand written stuff? If I have a shrinkwrapped copy, is it safe to assume that it is NOT one of the 500 signed?

The 500 custom editions were all ordered through FFG's website and had a custom name placed on the Warrant of Trade. The list of the Rogue Traders can be found on the support page under Officially Sanctioned Rogue Traders .. The other 500 retail versions had the same name on them.
Yes, but if the copy is wrapped in shrinkwrap, how do I tell what the name is is what I'm asking - unless the 500 uniques were not in shrink wrap when they were delivered.

Without opening it, it's impossible to tell. All the non-uniques listed Caligolos Winterscale on the Warrant. If you bought it from a store, that's probably the version you got.
Safe to say if you got shrinkwrapped, you got the non-unique. I got a CE and it wasn't shrinkwrapped.
