Inspiration for Xeno artifacts

By Cifer, in Rogue Trader

While researching something else, I came upon the original inspiration for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a russian novel named Roadside Picnic. Quite a few of the artifacts left behind by the visitors would make for cool fluff stuff in a Rogue Trader game, whether as interesting scenery, weird stuff hanging from a Rogue Trader's trophy collection or MacGuffins to be retrieved for some Profit Factor.

Awesome! That's a really nice source, thanks for sharing gran_risa.gif

Welcome to the world of Sci-Fi written during socialism in the Eastern Bloc.

I've never checked, but if you can avail yourself of Andrzej Zajdel's novels, these are awesome for the depiction of various societies (they didn't call him master of socio-fiction for nothing!). I'd especially recommend Lime s Inferior .

I highly doubt whether these have been translated into English, however. (btw, hello stupid forum interface and stuck italics function)

[Edit: Apparently, he will be known to the English-speaking readers as Janusz Andrzej Zajdel.]

Farscape and Stargate SG1 are good inspirational sources

Roadside Picnic is a fabulous novel. If you can, check out the movie STALKER. Almost pure atmosphere.
