RtL outdoor encounter question

By Jonny WS, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

A silly situation has come up with our overlord.

An outdoor encounter, Snowy Woods was drawn with the Troll Bridge.

The card says "No figure may move more spaces then its speed during its turn"

The question is, can the overlord spend an additional 2 threat to move a troll into a tree since it costs 2 movement points and not count that tree space as a space for the map encounter rules?

I'm not sure I understand the question.
The Snowy Wood's restriction means the Troll can move a maximum of 3 spaces during it's turn.
Entering a tree space is 1 space of movement, no matter how many MP it costs.

I'm guessing the Troll in question has already moved 2 spaces for it's first 2MP and wants to enter a tree space (costing 2 more MP* and thus needing the 2 threat)? In which case the answer is yes, he can.

*Note of course, that the Troll, being a large monster, does not have to pay extra MP to enter the tree space (even though he can claim Shadowcloak benefit from being in the tree space) anyway unless all 4 of his spaces are moving into some sort of terrain and he chooses to pay for the tree terrain instead of the other terrains.

FAQ pg2
The overlord may choose to have a monster affected by any terrain it partially occupies. A monster MUST be affected by any terrain it completely occupies. If the monster is completely occupying multiple terrains, the figure has to be affected by one of the terrains (Overlord's choice).

Sort of, our Overlord this evening is somewhat new at the position, so he has a lot of questions. I said it was not legit, but he wanted to argue and argue. Hence why I am posting on here.

He was saying that he could move the 2 spaces, and then want to enter the space using 2 threat for an extra movement point. But I kept telling him no, that its not legal for this map. I had to go back to the basic rule book to try and prove him wrong. But, he persisted.

So, I am posting on here to get some general opinions from people.

Thanks for your help :)

partido_risa.gif Of course he argued, you were screwing him on multiple levels! He was right, you were wrong (twice over)!

This one isn't a matter of opinion, it is a matter of basic rules.
The restriction is "Max # spaces = Mv"
Troll's Mv = 3
If the Troll moves 2 spaces , then another space into the tree, that's 3 spaces . No problem, no irregularity, no conflict with any rule.

EDIT: (beat me to it. +1 to Corbon)

Sounds like your new overlord is quick to pick up some of the subtleties of the Descent rules for a newcomer. Watch out for him...

(Sucks to be Brother Glyr on that map.)

Okay, it makes sense to me now. I cannot understand why I was so misleading with this one.

The same is true for heroes on this map, as long as the number of spaces is not exceeded, you can go anywhere.

Thanks for the help guys.
