Ship roles

By Erich4, in Rogue Trader

Am I missing something here?

Looking at the recomended skills neede to fill a role it appears that some of them are not normaly avalible to the career that is supposed to fill it.

It seems that the desiners are assuming that the characters will be taking elite advances to fill out all of the recommended skills?

Thoughts?

They're important skills, not restrictions. Think of them as guidelines for how a class other than the intended one would be capable of assuming the role.

Could you give an example?

OK, here is an example.

The role of Ship's Chiurgeon is one a missionary is supposed to fill.

The importent skills are:

Medica (the missionary get this at lv 1.)

Drug use (lv 4 or 5)

Lore: Cymistry (not on his list)

Peer: Underdeck I think, also not on his list.

I also think there is one more skill not on his list, but I don't have the book in front of me.

I'd say look at the suggested skills as a stylistic suggestion and not as a hard rule of any sort.

I have a Sororitas as my Mistress of Ordinance (she loves the big guns) and a Missionary as my Master of Arms (He's 2nd only to the sister in combat and has a stellar command score), just as an example of not following the guide. :P

Presumably, one could also petition the GM for Elite Advancements.
