RTL Question on gold

By morpheus673, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi

I apologise if I get any of this wrong but typing this up 1 week after a game and just want some clarification.

when the heroes kill the boss in an outdoor encounter do they get 100gold between them or each ?

Also when they kill a boss in a dungeon is it 100gold between them or each ?

I thought it was 100 gold between them for outdoor encounter and 100 gold each for dungeon but I could be wrong (and probably am)

also they players are finding it very hard in RTL as overlord should I be going easy on them in bronze age ?

As far as I know it's 100 gold each in both cases. So in RtL or SoB that's 400 gold all the time. I'm guessing the phraseology "100 gold per hero" is a carry over from the vanilla days when the number of heroes actually could change (however inadvisable that may be.)

In a vanilla game, things are typically hard when the heroes have town or copper gear and get easier with silver gear, to the point where they dominate the map with gold gear. The same progression is true in campaign as far as I can tell, it's just drawn out longer since the whole campaign experience is designed to take several sessions.

In short, no, you should not be taking it easy on them. Copper is where you score most of your CT, so make the best of it. Once the heroes get up to Gold it'll be all downhill for you. This is one of the reasons why the Tamalir Rush is such a popular strategy - finish the game before the heroes have enough time to build the strength to fight back. Of course, when the gambit fails the OL is often left with few if any LTs, so it's not entirely a one-sided tactic.

It's only 100 gold for killing a boss, not 400 gold. If something says "each" (like coin piles) then you multiply it by four. Otherwise you just put that amount in the party treasury.
