Just recieved my copy of Arkham Horror, opened it up, man it is so cool, cant wait to get started, it looks so cool in its packaging I almost dread opening it the rest of the way. Sooooo Excited!!

The rules of Arkham Horror are infinitely better than the ones for Descent, for one, which is something to be thankful for.
Have fun!If you ever get bored with the base set, get the Dunwich and Innsmouth expansions;these add a lot of stuff to the mix. And download the custom fanmade content; there's so much of it floating around.
I just got into it recently myself and it's awesome!
Things which helped me:
1) This forum definitely - I learned a lot of things just poking around here. Chances are if you have a question someone around here had it as well at some point.
2) Search around for some sort of rules flowchart/cheat sheet - the boxed rules can be a little obtuse at first and having someone else break them down can really help.
3) Think like a gamer or actor or story teller and not a lawyer - the rules matter but if you try to understand everything just as law you can end up making things more confusing. A lot of the time something that is confusing will make more sense when you think in terms of story "Oh yeah, I don't have 3 hands so I can't use a magical sword and shotgun at the same time!"
4) Be ready and willing to play a few times before you fully "get it" - I know my family and I "messed up" a couple things our first few games. That was okay because we've got it down pretty good now and it's fun. We didn't even finish a game or two but learned new things and strategies from those experiences.

These two are the best tips to give any newcomer. As one of the reviews I saw on youtube (paraphasing of course), Arkham Horror is great cause you can use house rules and still have a blast. Some other advice is play a few games solo with two investigators so you get a strong feel for the game then "teach" others.
I played my first game last friday, and I can just say I cannot wait to play this friday!! WOW I am blown away, it's just so much fun. The rules can be a little tough but this forum is great and I recommend a good flow chart, or even turn the manual over and theres a quick guide there. Also, use the Arkham horror wiki! Real easy to just search for the rules when you're playing the game!

I received my copy yesterday afternoon and I had an unpleasant surprise in my box.
Of the 4 sheets to punch to tokens and markers from, my 4 of 4 had the 3 of 4 back print on it.
I was all geared up to play after dinner last night, old friends that used to play the game with our old group show up and bam, 71 messed up tokens and markers. 5 Investigator markers that have the gate markers from 3.4 on the back.
Quite depressing
, but hopefully all will be made right in the end.

The exact same thing happened to me when I got the game. FFG's customer service is very good. Get ahold of them and they will ship you out the missing components.
Or just take it back to where you got it and tell them you got a defective copy. I'm sure they would swap it out.

Not to hijack this thread, but I thought I would go ahead and confirm what was said there.
Both the retailer and FFG have been immensely helpful in this.
FFG has priority mailed me the missing pieces today.
What should I look for to make sure I have all the pieces I should in my copy
Check the cardboard frames that held all the tokens. They should be numbered on them somewhere (in one of the corners I think. It's been a while) something like "1 of 4", "2 of 4", etc. Make sure you have 4 different ones.
There is also a list in the manual that tells you all of the components and how many there are of each ![]()
Cool thanks Ill check, I just got done punching out all of the pieces, I never got into model planes...but there are a hell of a lot of peices to this game
Uh oh, all three 1of4, 3of4, and 4of4 are all the same, is each one suppose to be different?
Not sure, but maybe they need to be the same; they just have different numbers on them.
Check again against the components list in the rulebook.

It says 24 of something, I have 25 of two of them
It says Stamina 10 "3s" and 24 "1s" I have 25, same for Sanity
