Evading Characters/Encounters

By mmotomb, in Talisman

I'm not sure if I have missed it but I couldn't find how to do the evading mechanics in the rulebook. Unlike Arkham Horror where you must roll a success using dice equal to your evade skill (minus modifiers) what should we do in Talisman? how do you determine you evade successfully?

If you can Evade, you just do it, auto. Note that things that can Evade in Talisman are limited. Elf (Woods), Dwarf + Gnome (Hills), Invisibility and Immobility Spells, those are the ones that come to mind, at least from a base game POV. Expansions don't add characters that can Evade IIRC (though some can choose not to get into combat with certain types of Enemies, doesn't count as Evading), a few spells and monsters that offer Evading. But mostly, if you drew it, you gotta deal with it is the way Talisman plays. And unless you use one of the variants, even the scope of things you can Evade is limited to just combat-related encounters, creatures or other characters (special ability use or combat), as per page 14 of the rules.

The "Evasion" thing puzzles most beginners because they read about it in the manual but don't really understand the "how and when".

The golden rule is "You can't evade unless you're told explicitly that you can!" happy.gif

Thanks guys for the clarification. I think I got confused only because I played other games that have a different evasion mechanic!

Okay, I guess it is simpler than I though. Thanks again :)
