Final Sanction Requisition amount

By Katie Drake, in Deathwatch

Hey everybody, this is my first thread here, so please go easy on me. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I finally got my hands on a copy of the Deathwatch rulebook and I'm super impressed! I absolutely love the game and can't wait to play it!

Now that being said, I've decided to run the Final Sanction (and possibly Oblivion's Edge afterward) mission(s) to start my group off as now that a bunch of players have the rulebook I'm concerned that a lot of them would have read through the adventure provided inside. However, none of them played Final Sanction, so I figure it's a good place to start.

My question is thus: Since the players are all making their own characters for this mission instead of using the pre-generated ones, how much requisition should I allow the players to purchase additional equipment? I tried to figure it out by looking at the pre-generated characters included, but didn't have much luck. Can anyone give me a recommendation?

Thanks for your time.

Doesn't the book list suggested Req points based on # of objectives?

Final Sanction Has:

2 Primary Objectives (40 Req)

2 Secondary Objectives (30 Req)

3 Tertiary Objectives (15 Req)

Assuming these are all "Skilled" objectives, that'd be another 35 Req, for a total of... 120 Requisition. Seems a bit high to me...

(p.138) Chapter 5: Armoury. Requisition. A straight forward mission may have a Requisition rating of 50, while a protracted defence of a planet may warrant a rating of 200 or more.

Based off that, there's a good base. But yeah, you might want to investigate by adding up the Req for each marine and see what the average is?

To find out what they get "for free", refer to pg.28

Thanks guys. I'm still quite new to the whole thing as I only just got a hold of my book, so I've yet to read every section. Thanks for being patient with me. :)

You might want to consider my musing here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=179&efcid=3&efidt=381677

Personally I have come to the conclusion of giving the team minimal requisition points as a Genestealer Infestation under guidance of an Inquisitor should be the right assignment for a bunch of fresh DW marines. And that also reflects in the equipment of the pre-gens.

Plus, I like the idea of under-equipped Marines having to deal with Tyranids in the follow-up scenario Oblivion's Edge. It just increases their heroism (additional renown?). happy.gif

They can't buy much worthwhile with their renown anyway as starting PCs.

Hi ya

Looking at the scenario and equipment lists. Brother Elyas shone out at me, this Assault Marine is carrying a powerfist which in the rules costs30 req and requires a Renown of Distinguished.

This would seem to indicate that the marine is a little better than normal, though his stats seem normal for a starting character. Regardless I have given 85 Req for Final Sanction which the players spent on specialist ammo and a couple of extra weapons.

If 85 Req is enough, well I'm not sure as I only got a little way in to the adventure last session. I'd say do what is best for you.

Good hunting.

If you want to keep it simple, set the Requisition at 50 per player. With starting characters, there's only so much they have access to, and if you set the Req limit very high then you'll just increase the time they spend pondering what to take.

I would also recommend (from recent experience) giving them the Requisition total well before game time, so you don't waste time at the table while players pass books around and use up play time doing what is essentially bookkeeping.

What I did was to eyeball the Requisition guidelines as they applied to the "real" mission, and calculated a Requisition of about 70 (I usually exclude Tertiary Objectives, as I don't think that the Deathwatch equips people for things that they just "might" happen to come across.). I calculated that as a Skilled Primary Objective of Killing the Broodlord, a Novice Primary Objective of sending out a communication, a Novice Secondary Objective of rescuing the Governor, and a Skilled Secondary Objective of helping the PDF regain control of the city.

70 Requisition may seem really high, but I am also running the 'sequel' to Final Sanction, and they aren't getting any more requisition for that mission (where would they get it from?), so it seems OK. In addition, they don't have a lot of Renown, so they should be spending it on lots of regular supplies, and not "Powerfists for Everybody!".

Then, I constructed an "Expected" Mission that would require about 70 Requisition. That way, the players should not get suspicious about what the "real" mission is, and they should also consider spending their Req on things like additional Grenades, extended supplies, etc. They are going to be told that their mission is to make contact with the Inquisitor, assist her in determining the extent of the genestealer cult, wipe out the cult entirely once it is found (ensuring that no corrupted members escape the city) including destroying the Broodlord, and determine how the infestation arrived on planet. That sounds like a challenging, longer term mission, so they wouldn't be surprised to be issued substantial amounts of regular ammo for their regular weapons, and they could be reasonably expected to requisition stuff like additional specialty ammo, additional medical supplies, an Auspex, a cartograph, hand flamers (for use in the cramped undercity), etc.
