Came across this last night. The only Marines left were the Libby and Leon. Libby plays PowerField on the only swarm of 3 cards to his front. Leon plays Overwatch. So there is no attacks. The event card spawns another card to The Libby's front and rear, then causes the front facing swarm to flank the Libby and go to his rear. Are the newly spawned cards which are now part of one bad swarm effected by the Power Field? Can Leon use Ovewrwatch and attack one of the new cards? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's a good question!

The card just refers to "the choosen swarm". The overwatch attack happens at the end of the event phase. In the case of formation shift, GS that are moved due to SM death also happens at the end of the event phase.

So I don't see where the rules give us any guidance here.

In absence of any other indication, my personal ruling would be to allow the overwatch attack BEFORE the swarms merge. My rational (such as it is) comes from playing the original Space Hulk game from GW. In that, marines on overwatch would be ready to attack anything that moved into their line of fire. So seeing as these new GS are "moving" to merge with the other swarm to form a larger single swarm, I see the intent of overwatch to allow the attack as they move across the marines LOS.

That said, I think it also adds some value to overwatch, which is not (IMO) an overly powerful card. Just remember, it's a regular attack, NOT brother Leon's full auto attack!

I agree. That's basically what I did. The Power field only counted on the original genestealers and the new ones were subject to the Overwatch. Thanks for your input.

I agree with the reasoning here. Overwatch still works.

When they talk about merging they also say the previous swarms merge into one large swarm, so actually the two small swarms (of which one was targetted by your librarian) aren't really there anymore (now being part of the new large swarm). Or something like that.

I have to add a rather simple question belongig to power field.

I only have the game in german, so I hope it is not due to bad translation.

Despite of the card's effect there is nowhere written that only the Librarian can evoke the power field. Not like the other cards for example were clearly brother Leon can attack three times. Is this restriction to the Librarian just missing or can the action be performed by both of the grey team members.

No, the English version doesn't mention the Lexicanium either. Which is why even the line grunt from the Grey team is valuable, unlike most other line grunts. Sure, having a team alive means 1 extra Action, but is the speciality marine dies, you lose most of the special abilities.
