Do you choose your starting teams randomly or pick the ones you want? The rules simply instruct each player to choose a team token and grab the matching cards. It sort of sounds like you pick what you want but I think I prefer choosing at random so as to guarantee that all teams eventually get selected.

That's the way I read it too Lex. But I also prefer to do it randomly, the same way as you do. I think it makes for a more challenging game.

When playing on my own, obviously I didn't pick at random. I chose. When with more mates, always random to avoid arguments

But, being a foreigner I understand word choose as a concious choice, not random. If it said pick at random then it would definitely be random selection.

With games like these, where different teams/characters have different abilities, I like to pick randomly among the teams/characters I haven't played yet. It really doesn't matter to me what teams/characters the other players pick or whether or not they do it randomly.

The point is to have fun, so regardless of what the rules say, use the method of team selection you find most enjoyable. If the game's designer has done his job, the teams are balanced.

I've been choosing my combat teams randomly.

My group picks ours chosen. I most of the time wind up with heavy flamer, because I always choose last.

The rules say you can choose.

But as all markers have the same backside, you can do it randomly as well.

Especially once you get better at it (and not playing with 3 or 6 players) choosing randomly adds an extra factor. "**** we don't have the assault cannon!"
