Investigator's Kit -- proposal for the custom content community

By Ornendil, in Fan Creations

I don't know if this idea has been mentioned before, but was wondering what people thought about building a community 'investigator's kit', something like a small box expansion that would be packaged together for people to download.

Here's the deal

The aim is to create a 'player' expansion that can be used with any or no expansions

The final contents of the Kit will be voted on by the community here and on BoardGame Geek

You may submit up to 5 entries per card type, 2-3 of which must come form other people's work, so if you have any favorites...

Themes: Investigation / adventuring / exploration, delving into things man was not meant to know -->the more Lovecraftian the better

Kit elements:

New and or revamped (from the base game) Investigators with personal stories

Relationship Cards

Adventuring gear: a collection of new common items like my Electric Torch themed to add more tools of the trade

Skills--I love the skills that were drawn from the Call of Cthulhu RPG like library use, perhaps more along those lines

Other possibilities: Allies, Madness/Injury cards, spells and or uniques if a character starts with them

Thoughts? No deadline or anything, mainly want a good number of submissions for each card type

I love the idea. I recently slogged through all of the pages for the AOs and investigators looking for some new ones to try out... There are some great ideas in there, but only a small percentage that I'd really consider worth playing, and even some of those I want to tweak a little first. But your suggestion would be good so we can limit things to what everyone considers the cream of the crop, particularly if anything has already been playtested at all.

I think we should maybe submit say 5 of our favorite investigators, with a limitation that only 2 or 3 at the most can be your own, which would require people to "nominate" others' work. Once we have like 25-30 grouped together then vote to whittle that down to maybe 8 of the best. Same thing with items, relationship cards, etc.

I'd also suggest that the actual voting for this take place at boardgamegeek, as they have three things that work particularly well for something like this... 1) a geeklist can be made that lists all of the submissions; 2) the thumb system there would be ideal for voting, or a poll; 3) there are a ton of users there, including a lot of AH fans, so it would be a wider voting pool than the handful of us that hang around here. I'd be happy to put that together when ready, and of course a link would be included here as well.

I definitely agree with using BGG for the voting, I've not posted any content there, so if you want to tackle that bit, that'd be cool. I also like your submission process, I'll add it to the first post.

Seems like a good idea to me. I would, but I've only made one thing so far, and it's not 100% finish, original or balanced. So I will have to work on that before I submit ^^;

I really like this idea though sounds like fun :)

also, if you submit material, please post the SE file as well

thanks

Working on some material to 'prime the pump'
