Tyrion's Enforcers
Again those soft looking clansmen... I just can't get used to them...
I hope we will never see a pretty looking Tyrion.
Soft clansmen? Would you mind elaborating a bit?
Basically it's the same complaint I made about Timett. IMHO the clansmen should be showing more signs of war and the rough life they are leading.
Actually if you don't like the style of Tymett you will not like this!!!
Contrary I love both of them and most of all the way Tyrion smile... a smile that predict future of revenge ;-)

I have to jump on the same boat, while the artwork itself is great i also expected the clansmen to look more like a folk that´s living in wasteland of rock and stone and that the people clearly show signs of the clansmen battles. Also i expected to see some details that Martin described like a necklace out of ears worn by the clansmen and of course some cut off ears on the clansmen themselves. ;-)
I like the Tyrion art, but i expected him to look a little bit more uglier. Depending on the excact scenery he should have lost his nose, but i guess the scene is taken from the first book? I really like the detail that you can see that he´s a Lannister (the hair) and his whole body is plump and small. The head seems to be bigger and you get to know that´s he´s small from the whole body mass proportion you have chosen.
Thank you to you all for commenting. I'll preface this saying that, of course, the mind-image one gets from reading a book is always very personal, and, unless one is the author, I don't think one is more valid than another.
@ mischraum.de noted, I'll elaborate below.
@ Gualdo, thank you, I guess we are on similar wavelenghts
@ Old Ben (and mischraum.de, given that you express a like opinion), thank you first of all for the appreciation for the technical aspect of the image, it's appreciated
.
I decided to go this way, because people not so long ago looked way older than they were, I took a bit of freedom in having them look more like we'll expect now for folk their age.
About ears: Timett is a Burned Man, Shagga is a Stone Crow as is Conn, Ulf is a Moon Brother. Only the Black Ears collect ears, and Chella isn't in the image... If I ever get assigned more clansmen I'll try and scar them a bit more, though.
Yes, the scene is from A Game of Thrones, shortly after they reach the Lannister troops, when Tyrion still had his nose. Up to the battle of Blackwater Bay I see him as a sort of distorted portrait of Jaime, so that one could notice the family resemblance through the distorted features (bulbous nose, asymmetrical, differently colored, small eyes, out-of proportion head, lanky hair).
I loved that you got the eyes right. That was actaully the first thing I noticed when the picture went up. Getting Tyrion right is pretty important, as many artists have done poor jobs. This one is great.
Thank you, Jerusalem. Tyrion is my favorite character in the novels, he's such a complex, rich character (not to mention the strong connection GRR Martin feels to him) that painting him was both really exciting and daunting. I'm happy you feel I did him justice.
