Biggest Nerd-Rage 40k Controversies Ever!

By player359820, in Deathwatch

Here is a thread for what people think are the most debated 40K canon topics.

My two personal favorites=

1: I want a female Space Marine!

2: I want my dear old Squats back!

Topics about the topics mentioned above.

That is all.

Wasn't that clever... I try not to think about it, but very few ideas that people come up with nowadays are actually original at all.. just a repeat of what someone else has mentioned prior (such is the case with my response).

Kinda makes you wonder what an original idea would look like and if you would recognize it if you heard / saw it.

Nerd Rage? Really...Still kills me when people rage of the dumbest <censored by Inquisition>. Like Female Marines....Who cares! Really... the world is not going to end if someone wants to play a female marine, but some people here tend to think so. And yes I know plenty of people in real life who are the same. Still people who Nerd Rage over such stuff normally get seen as not worth playing with, especially if the GM of a game is afraid that the player is going to blow a gasket if his Techpriests look more human than in the normal fluff. Small potatoes really.

So as for the nerd rage topic or controversy I say only those who can't get over it let it get to them.

Real experience:

I know what is like to have something you love tainted and potentially nerd rage inducing. For example, On bolter and chainsword a while back, the Space Wolf codex came out. Now the DA players...Dark angel players, became upset as they saw that the Space wolves could do a pure terminator army. They started to reword some of the codex to suit their needs and wants and within the rules of that codex came up with an army that they said was still Dark Angels but used only the Space Wolf codex. This got me so mad, Not joking, as I had waited for 10 years for a new Space Wolf codex, only to see it being abused by the Dark Angel fans (not all of them mind you, just those who saw something new and wanted it for themselves.) The most upseting part was that for 10 years I stuck to the old codex, never played or used another codex (Except the space marine one, and only because my book did not have the rules for some of the weapons and all the vehicles, which the old codex said to refer to the space marine codex), Here were some players who had not waited more then 2 years for new one and were jumping ship. I nerd raged and flipped out....

After being banned by bolter and chainsword mods, (I made a commit that if they couldn't grow up and act like they had a pair that they should quite playing 40k. A little childish I know but geez this is a PC world we live in) I realized how pointless nerd rage really is. Whether its about the female space marine issue, the Squats (which GW shafted by the way...), or people hopping to a new codex Not even of their army and claiming it was.... All pointless.

You can't change their opinion and all you do is make those less secure about themselves more <Censored by Inquisition> Hurt then normal. After all, we geeeks only have our Fantasy and sci fi worlds to escape in. (I know and this was a we to inculde myself.)

Don't forget the old trope: "Do Space Marines have junk, and does it still function?"

I think that this one is second only to "Female Space Marines" in bringing the pain.

Of course that means that the question "Do Female Space Marines have junk and does it still function?" would be the penultimate singularity of Nerd-gasmic Rage.

EDIT: Actually almost any topic concerning sexual reproduction turns into a frothing-at-the-mouth, crazy-eyed rant. I've seen threads about Ork reproduction that devolved into shouting matches of 'THEY'RE SPORES DAMMIT!" and "NO THEY'RE NOT, BECAUSE IT WASN'T THAT WAY IN ROGUE TRADER!"

I salute you, nice post. Add +1 to your wisdom score and a few maturity points to boot.

And back to the topic. There is one name that can induce enormous amounts of nerd rage in certain circles. I am not even going to write it, just in case. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Both points very true. The ork question. I just say hang the sense of it and move on. After all the only true thing about the 40k Universe is that at the end of the day, the Orks are going to WAAAAGH!

Glad a good lesson was learned here.

I dunno if it gets the most debate, but Necrons. Necrons, yo. I've heard about Necron players whining that they're gonna quit playing if they don't get a new Codex soon, ostensibly because their armies are worthlessly weak by the current rules.

I gotta wonder what that's about.

The ones you kill... they get back up.

It wasn't you who banned me. I forgot who it was. Needless to say man I try to keep foul words out. Still If my words offend people or my options, then I have little sympathy for them. If my Words cut so deep as get someone to call up the mods cause they can't defend their point and the smallest comment upsets them, (I initally got yelled out for telling a poster he is acting like a spoiled 12 year whos parents told him he can't play halo.) then so be it.

I do not agree with all the mods rules and so forth. Some I can understand, others are pointless( some people need to be more mature, and when that is lacking on both sides of the argument, and only one is punished I lose more of my temper. Yes I have admitted to be Immature.), so after I was told i was to be nice and make pretty with the one I upset, I just left and was told I was banned a week later by one of the mods. ::Shrugs::

Anyway, another Nerd Rage Topic!

1. Leman russ being the only one to beat horus before he became corrupted.

2. The True nature of the Lion and the Wolf Rivery.

3. Length and crew of the Cruisers.

4. Who can beat who....Logan Grimnar or Calgar.

5. Why should I care about any of the above questions....

I really enjoy the number 4 topic, I know the math hammer in it, and I know it was played out many times in the B&C threads. (Sometimes I just lurk the threads nowdays.) The Nerd Rage it gives some players make me smile and then ask them why they are getting so worked up about it. First thing is that Grimnar and calgar are one opposite ends of the galaxy, and so would most likely never meet each other. Secondly Calgar is the best when dealing Tyrainds and those Pestky little blue socialists. While Grimnar is the best at keeping the Cadian gate and eye of terror taken care of. (Let us all wipe the memory of that one world wide campgain, the eye of terror. For they found out a few months later that people were giving false reports, so they have left it at a stalemate with neither the forces of order getting an upper hand or the forces of chaos getting the upper hand.)

You left out the 'stupid conspiracy' of the Inquisition trying to cover up the existance of the warp gate when, in Into the Storm , it states that the kroot warspheres came through said gate. So we have a hideously deadly dark secret that.... every kroot walking the streets of Footfall knows about.

The return of the infamous 'Battlefleet Gothic ship scale' debate, which had been settled YEARS ago, is entirely FFG/GW's fault for overturning existing fluff in order to inflate the grimdarkery even further. This happens every time there's a fluff alteration. (See Lamenters)

The FSM debate owes it's existence to several things. SM were around months before the artical in WD. That the artical appeared in WD, which, at that time, was not much read outside the UK. Early on, fluff was not the overwhelming hardon for players that it is now, for some reason. Probably soemthing to do with the difficulty in even finding a game. The sorters at GW screwing up and selling the female adventurers as Space Marines, which, unlike most of the 'joke' castings, was released fairly broadly.

Toss in the fact that people, game players in particular, don't like being told what to do, add a dash of the few high quality conversions that have been done and a pinch of political correctness/feminism and voila! FSM debate.

You do realise, Grand Inquisitor Fulminarex, that this thread is in itself a "nerd rage?"

One of mine is the rage that is expressed by "new is true," or because something happens to have been published later it must be true. It doesn't work in academic circles and it doesn't work in 40 but... For nerd-rage? Yeah. Established trend.

I suggest that you should be perma-banned for having heretical perspective. Go away, lest they disease spread to others and the point of 40k hobbyism be reduced to reasonable discussion. I will place myself in a Schrodinger's Trap to determine where I sit. ;)

I think that we can lay this conspiracy down to... s**t happens, or "GW sitch norm."

I do realize it. I meant it to be a running joke, but some people, likely living in their parents garage, intoxicated by Mountain Dew and the euphoria they get from fondling their Battle Sister figures while watching a Paris Hilton Video-- the same people who claim "you would not recognize a good idea if you saw/heard it" just cant take a joke. It is a good thing the internet came along, giving the craven coward and the spineless wretch a venue to lash out at people with impunity. It looks like the meek really will inherit the Earth, but only after they destroy it with their poisonous electronic effluvia.

It does not make me wonder anything. I posted this as a jest. Nothing more. And people seem to be laughing at it and enjoying it. Tell me/show me one original idea you have personally had. Just one, preferably one that you can actually legally tell people about, not some serial-killer fantasy written in lipstick.

There room for one more in there? Sounds like a good time!

I once tried making Hamburgers with cinnamon. It doesn't taste good, btw.

I once pitched an idea of mounting a large number of CIWS weapons on a rigid airframe dirigible that could hold station just out of ground fire range and provide 24/7 air support with near zero tot and also provide effective area-denial against hostile aircraft. Unfortunately the men listening didn't realize that technology had advanced since the Hindenburg disaster. Also unfortunately, DARPA can't design an airship to save their asses, as evidenced by Walrus-Hula. The way to offset the increase in lift due to decrease in load is to use tilt rotor technology to create downward thrust, an inversion of a helicopter. (The underlaying principle is fairly old, but the design was both new and original, though it still carried elements of the 'classic' airship stylings)

And this is why even emoticons on the internet = fail. Sometimes I wonder if people intentionally take things the wrong way on the internet just to add unnecessary conflict to their lives.

The "wasn't that clever" response was directed at my own response to this thread.

The "I try not to think about it..." section was a philosophical bent on a deeper thought process that might have lead to an interesting conversation about psychology.

The "you" in the above sentence was not directed at YOU, but the world in general.

Now, to answer your response with an original idea that I came up with:

Mix Nitrogen triiodide with Trinitrotoluene and you have a product that can be sprayed onto a surface, dries in moments, and detonates with the force of TNT with a little application of force... say, with a rock.

Perfect for booby traps, special forces recon units, construction / demolition yards, and many other applications.

That sucks for ketchup then, given that cinnamon is one of the ingredients, IIRC. (That and I've prepared burgers with cinnamon in them and it works just fine if you don't overdo it. :D )

Awesome, but from a well known tome we both know the title of. happy.gif

And very cool. Glad you can take a joke! cool.gif

Yeah, ketchup didn't know that, but I was talking about four or five sticks of cinnamon to a pound of hamburger.

Tasted about as bad as the time I forgot to clean the cookware after.... nevermind.

Ah, just as authors have no appreciation for scale, some people don't have an appreciation for scale of ingredients. :D (I include myself in that!)

Kage

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

How about: Bring back the Ork Clan flavors we had in the two 2nd edition hardcovers. THAT was an army list.
