Tournaments last 5 hours?

By Hellfury, in CoC General Discussion

I was checking out the Arkham Nights 3 day schedule: www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/event-center/arkham-nights/schedule-3-day.pdf

I was lamenting the fact I would miss the Mansions of Madness designer seminar when I noticed that the CoC LCG tournament is scheduled to last 5 hours.

My question to you tournament vets: Is this typical for a CoC tournament to last that long?

I am not questioning FFG for scheduling it that long, I am just a bit surprised by its length since I doubt more people will show up to Arkham Nights than did at worlds. (but then again we may be surprised... *shrug*)

I did not look, are the rounds around 1 hour each? If 16 people show up there will be 4 rounds. If they get more than that the event will go the full five hours.

It doesn't say how long the rounds are but you do raise a good point. I assume the rounds are best 2 out of 3 games per round. Going by a rough estimate of 20 mins per game give or take, I guess its logical that if more than 16 people show up that it would last 5 hours.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

At GenCon it was 1 hour rounds - ideally best 2/3, but round stopped at 1 hour. The consider time to get started and time between rounds. 4 rounds (16 players) would take at least 5 hours with the extra stuff... 3 rounds would take more than 4 hours in reality.

Concerning the duration of the tournament, we, french players, use to have a similar lasting :

2 best of 3 for a global 55 minutes (including rulings) are the least we can do. I don't remember exactly, but if you refers to the Tournament organisation sheets, it says that it last something like 50 minutes long, isn't it ??

After reading the current tournament rules, it does indeed state 50 minute rounds. Which would round out to about an hour after new pairing are made, etc.
