Grand Provinces of the Empire (download)

By Morffe, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I've made a short reference card, one for each of the Great Provinces of the Empire, including, customs, habits, and things like government and political situations. Note its kept short to give you an idea of how the provinces can be pictured in your game without, impeding on your creativity. If you want more information on the Grand provinces of the Empire I suggest you get your hands on sigmar's heir.

enjoy!

Grand Provinces reference sheet. download

Excellent work! Thank you.

Thank you!

I made this reference sheet for myself, in the case my players suddenly asked questions like " you said you are from Averland, how is it there?", instead of stutter eh....fine i guess, I could say, "ah Averland is sun-filled country with rolling hills and meadows of grassing cattle, our cattle is famous through the empire". It helped me, so why not see if other can use it.happy.gif

I am not fishing for comments and flattery, but unless you leave a few lines, this link and thread will find itself in obscurity on page 2 pretty soonlengua.gif if you want me to change something or have ideas of how it can become better, well give me a few lines.

Good gaming

Just wanted to say this is superb well done...

I was working on something similar now i will not have to finnish it...

Well done...

regards

sean

thanks for that piece. I did not play 1st and 2nd Ed and don't have books about the regions of the Empire, so it's usefull. I can use it to flavor the characters in play and info/knowledge to players during play ;)

Cool. Just wondering where the references are from - my recollection tells me 1st edition. Which is fine since 3rd is closer to 1st then 2nd for the world settings.

its a combination of both. but sigmar's heir(2nd e) provided a lot of help. but in some cases I had to check up with 1st edition since some of the provinces in the 2nd edition where ravaged by the Storm of Chaos, for instance Hochland. And in some cases I had to make an educated guess on the political situation based on circumstantial evidence. how where the province of Hochland before the Storm of Chaos? I was surprised to discover it had a golden age, much thanks to the benevolent elector count. that is very untypical of warhammer. but I figured that if only 1 of the 11 grand provinces was having a Golden Age, why not. of course some info had to be read between the lines to find out exactly how things are. I have avoided using my own interpredation as much as possible, but on some occasion I had to draw purely from memory, unforunately some books are lost to me.

anyway, I am very pleased about the positive responses. Be on the lookout for the upcoming Liber Fanatica issue 7 that will be very useful for 2nd e and 3rd ed gamers, and contains alot of information about running the game, interesting articles, as well as an adventure and two.

Mal,

that's outstanding! Great job!

Hey, who is Dyrath? (under Reikland's Major Churches)

What about we think of Major Imports for the provinces? That could help on the thread "Smuggling Goods" as well...

For Reikland, I imagine clothes, dwarf spirits, beer and ale, luxury itens like spices from Araby (through Marienburg), Bretonnian wine and other beverages, military orders such as powder weapons from Nuln, furs, books... something else?

Dyrath is another aspect of Rhya, which the Reiklanders honour as the patroness of fertility.

I should also mentioned the other unfamiliar deities that are mentioned in the chart, since I forgot to put description in the document.

Handrich (also known as Haendryk). Is a minor god of gold, merchandise and trade popular in Marienburg and Bögenhafen, among traders and merchants.

The Halfling gods
Phineas, patron of tobacco, with the ever-full pouch.
Josias, the patron of farming and growth
Hyacinth, the godess of fertility and childbirth

I noticed that under Major exports of the provinces, Woollen goods for instance is just a group for many more items like rugs, clothing and even sheepskin. so it can mean a great deal of things.

in the WFRP companion smuggling is divided into two categories.

1) Smuggling, meaning moving illegal goods, and possession of such illegal cargo may result in imprisonment or even execution in extreme cases.
2) Tax evasion, which as it implies means to evade tax & tariffs. And are a quite popular pastime for Altdorf dockers and other waterfront gangs such as the Whips who use the Ratchett line Coaches to move their contraband.

But the real money lies in smuggling or tax evasion of luxury foods that have to be imported (and thus sufer heavy tariffs) from other nations such as Bretonnia or Marienburg. Luxury goods include Chocolade, Jam, Oysters, Fish eggs, Venison, Preserved Meats and cheese. other goods that you can profit from are Dyes imported trough Marienburg or along the River of Echoes in the Söll valley, Dyes are usually carried in glass vials or in wooden kegs waterproofed with pitch to prevent leakage and ruination.

From Kislev whale oil transported in wooden barrels or sealed clay jars can be lucrative to smuggle, or bottles of vodka (which is always in high demand).

From Bretonnia their famous brandy, perfumes (they have the best scent makers) that are packed in small glass vials.

From Marienburg, the largest harbour in the Old world moves alot of exotic goods that can bring astronomic sums for the smuggler willing to risk their lives, since that city is rife with organized smugglers and gangs. Exotic goods include Chillies, Tea, Coffee, Saffron, Paprika, ivory just to mention a few.

Military goods, includes weapons, armour, and war-horses and cannot be traded by Merchants unless they have a military trading permit and a full membership in the Merchant's Guild. Smuggling such items is always considered illegal and usually met with the capital punishment.

these are some of the examples I found.

Nice work!

I am looking for something similar regarding gossip in taverns. Any pointers?

Thanks for this. I was flipping through Tome of Blessings last night and thought that a mercantile god was a big omission. It's good to know that my smuggler has someone more... legitimate to give thanks in public to, if you know what I mean.

Sorry for a late response. Actually having Gossip attached to the Grand Provinces sheet would be an excellent idea.

Gossip Reikland:

"Aye lads, you want news? Well let me tell you this, -and word is just out from Messingen near Übersreik, -that there's trouble in the mines. Miners hav fled in terror from the Hulgedal copper mine, something terrible is lurking arround in the dark deep. Heard it meself a week ago from a frightened miner. The miner told me that Graf von Jungefreud's bailiff is anxious to pay gold to get rid of the problem. A nasty business it is". -Altdorf Innkeeper of the Crossed Lances

Gossip Stirland:

"It's ghosts I tell ya. it's no ordinary bandits that raid merchant caravans near Liecheberg. It's Ghosts from the nearby Haunted hills. The Count's grandfather hanged their leader some 70 years ago, and now they have come back from the death to extract their revenge. I swear. me cousin on my mom's side, twice removed know a neighboor whose friend is a wagoneer. And his friend is also a wagoneer that knows somebody who saw those cursed ghosts. I'm practically a witness to these things, so ya better pay attention to what me saying".
-heard at Golden Eagle inn, Wurtbad

I would strongly reccomend Sigmar's heir to build your own rumours. The book is spiced with such rumours.

Good Gaming

Very useful stuff, thanks for charing.

I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to The Old World, but this shouild save me a LOT of time during gaming session, when I must flip through endless sourcebooks because I can't retrieve the data from this old brain...

Bra jobba! gui%C3%B1o.gif
