Using Google Sketch Up to creat a Tannhauser Map.

By Miah999, in Tannhauser

This is just a proof of concept, but I think you can see that you could create a Tannhause style map. I was able to do this in just an hour or so, and it's my first time using the program. Obviously it still needs paths, etc, and I'm still learning about shading and textures.

Hey all,

I've created another map with Sketch Up, and I've finished it to a beta stage with Paths and some other basic circles. Noth some of the circles may be too dark, I'll be checking the colors as this project progresses.

Here's the link miah000.blogspot.com/2010/09/google-sketch-up-map-idea.html .

P.s. sorry I left the "e" out of create in the thread title.

Pretty cool, bra.

Also useful for other games using a modern-ish setting.

I would make the circles a lot brighter (in your second pic) though. Mainly because if I were doing this I'd probably lower the brightness of the whole image to get it closer to the tone of the official maps.

Thanks Steve-O,

I was thinking along those same lines; this is a learing process for me so I hope I'll get better with time.

really like this one

Hello Miah999,

I really like this pyramid map !! Very cool and with strategy. The 3D gives a good idea of what the place looks like in real :) . Especially the sniper position.

I just have printed your jungle map, in a A0 format ! It's a square of 84 cm/84 cm. (I will try to post a picture of it). I have also the bunker of Doc Savage blog. Next time I print, it will be the pyramid.

Thank you both for your tannhauser customs !!

Thanks Daysman,

I would really like to see the printed version, as I haven't been able to print them myself.

Hi,

here is the jungle map : 84x84 cm (33x33 inches). Diameter of circle is 3.5 cm

Really neat seeing one of Miah's maps printed out!

HOLY $#!* THAT"S AWSOME!!!!

How well does it play, any major flaws?

Yes, the jungle is huge. I have not yet tried it because I printed some days ago.

and here the bunker map , in a normal size. Cool :D .

Thanks Daysman,

But I did design it at 26 inches square with 32mm path circles. Do you not have the ability to define the print size, when you print?

Those maps look really cool, just seems like they would be a pain to print. How much was it to get printed to correct scale?

I have asked the price to a printing shop and it was 35 euros (49 US $) for a A0-format printing .... Too much :(

So, I printed them for free "elsewhere" but I can't use very well the english driver of the plotter.... This is why the sizes are not the good ones. I think that for the jungle, I clicked by mistake on "Fit the image with the paper" or something like that. I was positively surprised with the result ;)

Thank you again for you maps !! FFG should have contacts with fans like you, in order to officially publish more maps, more miniatures,....

Thank you, I understand better the size difference now. I hope you can still play and enjoy, despite the giant size.
