Talisman Scenario

By burst2, in Talisman Home Brews

Hi everybody, I am kind of new to the home brew section but i had to try!

Since I ve heard about the possibility to set up an arkham horror game for different and maybe more exciting gameplay i have to try it with talisman.
Due to its amount of cards and ways of winning the game etc. Talisman has so much potential for scenarios.

I heard that for an Arkham Horror Scenario you have to erase certain cards from the deck and you can only pick characters from a reduced deck as well.
Than one can put up a pile of enemys (maybe just deamons for a deamen theme, or ice queen minions for a Ice queen scenario.) from which you have to place a random one every time you role a 6 on the board. Additionally one can place random followers/objects facedown on the board. This would create a theme for the whole game without getting rid of the surprize effect.

As well as with Arkham Horror one can create a whole story around it. For example: The first game is about investigateing the dungeon. The Character heard a rumor about a Lord of Darkness who holds a Big treasure. After the game is played without the highlands etc. it turns out that the treasure was a trap. So in the next game this player has to play with his base stats -1 or sth. The next game would be about visiting the warlocks cave to find out the truth about this conspiracy. He will help the player for solving 5 quests... and so on

Maybe its not very creative but i was thinking about it while i was typeing.

Before i continue with this topic i would be glad to recieve some feedback. ;)

That would be a really neat niche for the Talisman enthusiasts.

One guy developed an Adventurer ending, which is quit similar to a scenario to win the game.

Though with scenario's you could make it a tough game by removing certain cards.

Take out all the bags of gold cards and first to 20 gold wins, that would really increase PVP.

Indiana Jones Version;

Remove all trap doors, runes, mountain trail, and dungeon door cards, and the first to visit-Oasis, Eagle King, Lord of Darkness, Plain of Peril. Then return to their original start position wins.

I am sure even a sole Talisman version would be cool too. Only one Talisman can be in existence at once. (no back door to the crown of command should be allowed)

Monster Madness vesion;

Use only monster cards, the first to a set number of victories would be declared winner. This version would probably be best with a restricted set of characters.

In my homebrew collection I ever made, I have two "like a scenario" sets. One of them is called Icy Drache Expansion Set which is featuring a battle against a Dragon, which can change its Modes:

Icy Drache (Dragon Mode) > Icy Drache (Human Mode) > Icy Drache (Death Mode) > Icy Drache (Angel Mode) > Icy Drache (True Mode).

There is some "support cards" like events, strangers and 8 its servants.

Another one is Ra Mu Expansion Set which is Alternative ending card scenario about summoning Ra Mu creature from another dimension. The first player, who sill summon it has a chance to win the game. To summon Ra Mu characters need to find three OOPArts.

However that two scenario are available only in Polish.

really like the Scenario idea. And I do not think, that Scenarios have to be just for winning the game, there should be some kind of "mini" Scenarios. For example each character obtain one random Scenario at the begining of game, and if he/she accomplish it, he/she will gain some kind of rewards (also specified on the scenario card)

Few examples:

Quest of Discovery

Scenario

Place 4 Craft on this Card. Every time you visit Castle, Temple, Oasis and Tavern, remove one Craft. You have to keep this order (so if you visit Temple as first, you can“t remove Craft). If last Craft is removed, gain 3 Craft.

Way of the Warrior

Scenario

Discard total of 20+ value Strenght Trophies at once to accomplish this Scenario. If you do, gain 4 Strenght.

Dragon Killer

Scenario

Complete this Scenario by defeating 2 Dragons. If Scenario is completed, you automaticlay win any battle against next Dragon.

etc... gaining not just bonus to stats, but also for example some Objects etc...
