Why I think it's a terrible idea not to include new/updated rules in the Hardcover releases

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

A lot of good topics lately folks. Keep them up. :)

Anyways, I got to thinking about why I think it's mistake not to include updated or new rules in the upcoming hardcover books. Although, I can understand the desire not to have to purchase another $100 in books when the core set is supposed to include it all, there are some gaping holes in the rules that need fixing/updating/refinement (for example: everything we've been discussing lately).

These rules updates could easily be put in a web enhancement for those of us sticking with the core set (Uncle Arkie and Me for example), and then fixed in the books, RATHER THAN putting out a defective/incomplete set of rules that players will suddenly have to ask themselves the same questions again and again. I believe this is their ONE CHANCE to fix things. I don't believe they're going to get a second chance with a 4th edition release in a year or two, because if half of the audience jumped ship with 3e, a 4e definitely would kill off the rest.

FFG is missing an opportunity to create the next D&D with WFRP (IMHO). They've obviously got a lot of money to pour into this, and rather than just making it a passing fancy, which is what I feel it's becomming, they could make it a titan of established roleplaying games.

This has successfully been done with the Warhammer 40k line. Heck, they've turned that into THREE games from one universe WITH NO EDITION CHANGE. Could this be done with WFRP? Could it be turned into the next D&D or what White Wolf had for WoD in the past instead of just a quick-sale and dump?

jh

I agree with you Emirikol.

this is a golden opportunity for FFG to fix what is wrong with the WFRP rules, and even expand on their visions for WFRP. But I don`t think there will be a 4th edition anytime soon, or if ever. Maybe there will be corrections as they seem to be doing with the hardcover rulebooks. But no 4th edition I think.

Unleashing the full Potiential of Warhammer

As you said Emirikol, FFG have the opportunity to expand on this brand. Maybe even greate world-campaign sets. Like a Lustria campaign set, an Araby campaign set or even a Cathay campaign set. But this depend on two important factors.

1) the GW license. Depending on the exact contents of the license, FFG may or may not expand into different worlds.
2) Interest. Only if warhammer sells enough, there will be any incentive from FFG to invest into larger expansions of the game.

But you point out a really interesting point here. W40K did expand into three games, so why not something like this for wfrp too. So here`s my third factor

3) Up to us! yes, we as players and gms of this remarkable game must do our best to keep ourself and others interested in the game. we must support FFG, buy their products, create fan materials, and keep the different Warhammer communities alive. It was the coming of INTERNET that made it possible for WARHAMMER to be ressurected, now we have Internet, and now we can influence the fate of warhammer. Promote it wherever you go, volunteer to run a few demo games at your local hobby store, and write some fan materials.
A good start is to enlist your players to this forum, ask them nicely to sign up to this forum.

Help FFG to unleash the full Potential of warhammer.

and...good gaming.

Expansion or not, missing the opportunity to reprint an UPDATED ruleset in the hardcovers not only for new players who balk at the card-heavy system as well as to get we current fans' dollars is silly.

Take the time to fix what's broken, then go back and redo the boxed sets later if you have to. These aren't the boxed sets, they're a different format. Pleeeease!
