Hrrrmmm...No Chem Geld?

By ddunkelmeister, in Deathwatch

Does the ability of a Space Marine to have sex really matter in the game? Seriously, I see no reason why it would ever even become an issue unless part of the mission is to go and **** the enemy to death.

And besides, what makes you think they are all straight? If history is any indicator, the greatest warriors were the Theban Sacred Band, 50 gay couples who were the ultimate warriors of the ancient world (in some opinions, Alexander thought so). They died to the last man from overwhelming numbers.

Perhaps the homosexual chapter motto can be "Never leave your brothers behind."

I don't know. Imposing the consequences of their actions always seems to be appropriate. After all, surely even if your in the spotlight (as Deathwatch would have it) you're just as, if not more, likely to see the dirt and tarnish...

I believe that you were saying that a SM having sex should always have negative consequences. I disagree. I see no reason why a SM would not be encouraged to breed with genetically-compatible females (as determined by the Apothecaries) so as to continue the lines of eligible aspirants. I'd imagine that these compatible individuals would be taken in as serfs by many chapters.

Part of this controversy comes from the rather vague use of 'ancestor' in the Ultramarines novels. The behavior of the characters implies the relationship is thought to be direct. (IIRC it was originally written as Grandfather or great grandfather and then changed)

No, that wasn't what I was saying at all. I was merely making a comment on how PC actions should always impact upon them and, often, these are imposed. It was nothing more than that. If you're want to assume a whole lot? Well, that's you baggage.

Ah, whatever, though. I think that this has become yet another "Female Space Marine" thread, just with an "outtie" focus rather than an "innie" one.

In my opinion, I believe that space marines have been conditioned to not care about such things. Flirting with women is the norm, after all ragnar and the space wolves do make passes at women. Sometimes it can back fire on them. Still I think that the hypo-training of their minds has made it so that they just do not feel the urge to reproduce, mainly because they are normally fighting all the time. In the case of space wolves I see them as the type that would rather drink and talk and play norse type drinking games in their off time, with fellow warriors even if they are females, then to try to get them in the sack.
