Official release of Bonus Heralds

By miles601, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Out of curiosity, why hasn't FFG released the 2 bonus Heralds: Dark Pharaoh and Dunwich Horror as a bonus pack-in to an official release? I have printed out 2 nice quality copies, but whats the harm in packing them in with the next expansion? I don't think 2 extra Heralds are going to make or break the price point of an expansion.

Probably for the same reasons that they haven't released any expansion-expansions: it's too much of a niche product. The proportion of people buying any given expansion who are likely to have both DH and CotDP is really small (though the Dark Pharaoh herald at least is somewhat usable on its own). And demand isn't even necessarily that high among even those of us who do currently use both heralds; I for one would be more interested in basically any other herald-card-sized content they might have room for in an expansion.

Well, I can say I'd prefer having those two over any other herald-sized items in future expansions. I would've bought Lurker if they'd been included.

I simply don't like playing with self-printed stuff.

I don't see why they couldn't have packed it into Lurker or Innsmouth as bonus content. I'm not whining about it, its VERY easy to just print your own copy, just seems like it wouldn't be a big deal for FFG to include it. It won't make or break price point or storage inside the box to add 2 more heralds. That way those who enjoy those Heralds would have an official release with size, and paper quality that matches the official releases.

This is exactly how I feel, to be able to have matching components!

I understand everyone has their own persnickity issues in some ways, but really... you guys can't use a herald that's printed on a sheet of paper?? It's text... that's it. You might refer to it a few times in the game. It may as well be a rules sheet or FAQ sheet. Same thing with custom AOs and investigators... in those cases you interact with them slightly, moving sliders and placing tokens on them. But still... big deal. It's still just a sheet of paper and whaddya know... the game still works great. Get some heavyweight paper stock, print at high quality, use a slicer tool, and it's really a negligible difference to what an official herald would be, anyway.

Its not that I can't! I'm not looking to argue. As I said before, I printed out a nice quality version that I'm quite happy to use. I just was suggesting it made sense for FFG to throw in a nice official copy of the Heralds with an expansion.

I just realized after posting that your name was attributed to some youtube videos i watched when I first started playing AH that helped me out with setup etc. thanks for posting those!

Yes - official printed versions please. Homemade prints are not enough.

Yeah, I understand. It would be nice to have an official version, but someone had said they don't like to play with self-printed things and I don't understand that, really. I've played many times with printed characters and GOOs and heralds and other various variants, and the game is still just as enjoyable.

It's an OCD thing. Just because we can play with a piece of paper doesn't mean we don't want to play with a nice piece of paper that matches the other pieces of paper.

I agree. I prefer non-printed off materials for my games.
