Apothecaries: hardy and autosanguine, and other comments

By KommissarK, in Deathwatch

They have access to these talents at rank one. By my reading, autosanguine does the same effect as hardy, and then some, for the same cost. Why would anyone take hardy?

Also, anyone notice that the medicae rules for diagnose is pulled directly from RT (to the point of mentioning crew loss and long voyages)?

Finally, any reason for the lack of trade skills (like BA get access to talented[trade artisan], but no actual trade skills, or no trade armourer for techmarines, etc.)?

Overall, I seem to generally like the way its done though, fairly nice progression, etc. Access to most of the skills at some point means that small parties don't get too shafted, while each class can still hold their own and be individual.

Although the ability for a tac marine to fire a lascannon while moving (using hip shot, note it does not have a weapon class req, and bulging biceps negates need to brace) at rank 2, while a devastator has to wait till rank 3 strikes me as a bit odd.

That one is simple: Take a look at the General Space Marine Advances on page 60f. You'll notice Trade (any), Trade (any) +10 and Trade (any) +20 in the first three ranks.

Wow, didn't catch that, or forgot about it if I did. I think the "any" descriptor threw me off, it makes the skill description not as large as I used to remember them in DH.

This sounds to me like something for an errata to clear up rather than an intended use of skills and talents.

Well, the description of hip shooting is the same in DW as it is in RT (which is different from my copy of DH, which lists it being for pistols only).

A small question on this. Does that (any) mean that the talent can be taken for 1 of the trades regardless which one? (and only for one trade? Or can such a talent be taken more than once?)

as far as i can tell you can take the trade (any) skill multiple times obviously picking a new trade each time

In general, you need a "can be taken multiple times" annotation on a skill to do so. However, I don't see too many problems arising from allowing a Space Marine to learn bakery and being a good valet.
