Equipment cards the way to go?

I'm not knocking anyone's preference, but I find it highly ironic that FFG has gone to the trouble to produce a hardback version of WFRP with optional rules to let people write stuff down on a character sheet rather than use all the cards and tokens that come with the game as it has been sold up until now, because apparently a lot of people were put off by all the "accessories". Now here we have a "traditional" game that requires you to write stuff down on your character sheet and we have all kinds of people clamouring for FFG to produce a nice deck of cards. Next thing you know, folks will start asking for wound counters because constantly updating that on your character sheet doesn't make sense.

I believe those who are willing to use cards with DW are just a niche. And you'll have to admit that DW lends itself more to it given the "borrowing" of equipment for a mission.

The point is in having ones permanent gear on the char sheet and the requested gear as cards.

Alex

1. Yes, the group of people wanting equip. cards would probably be a niche audience.

2. It does seem a bit ironic when compared to the complaints about the WHFRP 3rd ed.

3. In games like DH or RT it doesn't make as much sense, because character equipment is very personal and usually sought out by the individual due to preference/training/value. In DW it makes more sense because Marines rarely have individual, personal weapons - unless they are a Veteran or a Hero of some sort whom has been around quite a while.......on the other hand, a Deathwatch kill team would be more likely than a standard tactical marine to have hand-picked weapons, or at least a trusted bolter or chainsword, however that item might not be practical on all missions. Since the DWKT is like special forces in a way, they would change equipment more than most SM's.

4. I think there is a limit to how much text of a particular book that you can publish in one document....I would send an email to FFG legal dept. just asking permission....they would be more likely to allow it if you are not charging...

Anybody willing to lend a helping hand?

I have the first set practically finished, I could use a second pair of eyes looking for errors. And for looking better pictures from the internet.

Alex

Sure AK, I'd love to help, I'm really interested in this project, the whole idea really appeals to me. If you would like to email me the pdf file to check out then my email address is on my profile. If the files aren't PDF then I'm sure I'll be able to find an appropriate program to read them with.

I'll be getting back to you the same day as I recieve the emails. ( I live in the United Kingdom, so I'm not sure how far ahead or behind my standard time you are.)

I think your email address is only visible for you. Doesn't matter anyway, I've uploaded the (almost complete) Uninitiated set to rapidshare:

http://rapidshare.com/files/438095763/Uninitiated.mse-set

Has a download limit of 10 downloads only though.

You need an app called Magic Set Editor to open the file format.

Two things are necessary: proof-reading the cards and looking for some better pix. Also if some vital equipment is missing it needs to be added (only equipment without renown requirements for this set).

okay dude, I'm checking in on the cards as I type this lol, Some of the pictures you chose are f'ing brilliant!

I'll get right onto it and let you know when I chose edited the ones I think need it.

For future reference, my email address is: [email protected]

Aye. Necessity is the mother of invention. happy.gif

FYI, I am doing the Respected level, etc stuff now. So no need to duplicate that work.

oki doki, I'll just let you produce each set of cards and then check and edit them as you produce them if you wish, that seems the easiest way to do it, to me at least.

AK, I have edited some of the pictures, and spaced out the writing in some of the cards, so they're easier to read and easier to distinguish each piece of information.

I've uploaded it and the link is: http://rapidshare.com/files/438238406/Uninitiated.mse-set

hope you approve, if you dont, I'm sorry!

Some improvements and on some I'd rather keep the original pics, it's all good though. I'll send you the next sets when I've got them finished. The good thing about this file format is that it makes replacing images one doesn't like so easy. :-)

Thanks for the help.

I completely agree about the file format, its awesome for more than one person to be able to edit the images without a massive complicated process. I tried to change as few as possible, but some I thought could have done with lighter images, so that the images would be easier to distinguish should a user decide to print them in black and white. I assume that you changed the missile launcher and the signum link back at least, even I wasnt 100% happy with my choices on those pictures, though it would be nice if you could let me know which others you changed back, so I could refer to more your taste in the future.

Glad to be of help happy.gif

Didn't change anything back yet. I wouldn't change either of those two images back. The ML is awesome and the signum link is correct. I guess my original image would be more fitting for the targeter?

Btw, I changed the colours of the frame to black for Uninitiated and Black and an overlay of another colour for the higher ranks. More in theme with the black of the DW.

the frames and stuff is a cool idea, and the image that you used for the signum link would be more appropriate for the targeter in my opinion. what colours are you thinking of using for the different ranks?

-Tomnissiah

Send you the sets. What visual difference do you see between signum and signum link btw?

Alex

I'd recommend using www.mediafire.com
