[rules question] Sarah Kerrigan

By Mad Malthus, in StarCraft

Hero card text reads:

"Place an infested Terran with a hero token underneath it in any friendly area.

You may then research the 'Psionic Storm and Cloaking' technology for free ..."

Question:
Does this mean the Queen of Blades player gets the Psionic Storm technology immediately upon playing Sarah Kerrigan, or does it just mean that the Queen of Blades gets to buy the technology for free when she executes a Research order?

Thanks to anyone..

Hi,

we played it that you imediately shuffle the to Kerrigan cards into your combat card deck, when you execute the leadership card. Still this is only my opinion, the card itself is not completely clear. In principle you should also be able to research the "Psionic Storm and Cloaking" card earlier in the game.

We also play that you get them immediately shuffled into your deck. Kind of like that event card that lets you research a tech and immediately shuffle it into your deck (although that would normally be in the regrouping phase). It seems appropriate to get those tech cards when you get Kerrigan. We actually keep those 2 tech cards with the leadership cards so that if the hero card is chosen, you know you get the 2 tech cards at the same time.

Just so, all other things wouldn't make sense.

thanks all, that's how we played it.

But in my opinion card say something else.

Card text:

You may then research the 'Psionic Storm and Cloaking' technology for free ..."

So its really clear that you must research this tech card for Kerigan in the next turn or in the next one .....

Card have no text about taking this tech card immediately.

We played too that you imediately shuffle the to Kerrigan cards into your combat card deck - but now I think that is wrong approach.

Kerrigan advantages:

- first: major values at all combat cards,

- second: you CAN research 'Psionic Storm and Cloaking' tech.

In our next SC with BW we will change our approach to Kerrigan card text.

This is a question worthy of a reply from Corey.

Well, I still think you get it for free. Why not? Kerrigan just HAS this ability. But again, you have to research Psi Storm, too ^^ Well, let's wait for Corey.

We have our answer:

Q: What does the “Sarah Kerrigan” Leadership card mean
by “research the ‘Psionic Storm and Cloaking’ Technology
cards for free”?
A: The Queen of Blades player may immediately take the
“Psionic Storm and Cloaking” cards from her Technology
deck and shuffle them into her Combat deck.

Corey wrote this in the new and updated FAQ.

So as it seems to me after the FAQ you still could research her technology cards before playing the Kerrigan Leadership card. Her technology cards have printed costs of 0 anyway, so if you like to have the cards ready in your combat hand when Kerrigan comes into play, just research them in advance. Any objections?

I guess there is no objection to that, it would be legal to research them before you play Sarah Kerrigan. But I don't think anyone will do this.

To Boromir: I gave only an additional option, which could be helpfull if you are low in resources or workers and need research to get combat cards or if you do not have enough workers left when you execute the research order. Usually you would research something else (there are enough usefull technologies).

You are right, if you do not have enough worker, it could come in handy. Else you would probably transform your research order into an event, in this case you get an additional bonus.

In my opinion "Psionic Storm and Cloaking” tech cards comes into play when Karrigan is in the game and you can't purchase this tech before that.

Purchasing the 2 techs before Stage II doesn't seem too strong, it doesn't contradict any rules (as opposed to disallowing it), and it adds strategic depth, so why not? ;)

It is totally useless to research the Tech before you have Kerrigan, so why stop the poor bastard researching it beforehand?

The only advantage of researching these technology cards before you have Sarah Kerrigan is that you can have them in your hand and if you play Sarah Kerrigan you can use them directly.

I dont like an idea of having ready tech card for Kerrigan when she comes into play.

I think that the mayor adventages of Kerrigan are major values on combat cards.

Kerrigan is strong enough with out tech cards ready on the hand.

I have to play some games to determine that. I wasn't so happy about the new modules either before I played a game, but they don't have such a great impact as I feared.

I already played a game with Karrigan showing in stage II and now I think that for purpose of balanse it will be better if tech cards will be shuffled into combat deck at the biggining of stage II (if needed).
