Here in two weeks my grp is gonna split cash on a WoM box, im just very curious. How do you gain mutations first place (chaos items, poisoned drinks? ) and is there a mutation threshold?

Exposure to Chao thingy.

The more exposed you are, the easier for you to gain mutation.

Pretty much as Qingtian said. Certain objects or areas have a Corruption rating, which determines the difficulty. Exposure to the location/item forces tests to resist, or you gain corruption points. Once a certain number of points are gained, you acquire a mutation card.
