Lannister Archetypes ?

By Toqtamish, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So a friend of mine that I taught to play is going to play Lannister, I don't know much about them and their deck types other than one I heard of called hyper kneel or something like that. Can someone give me a rundown of some of their decktypes and what they consist of or do so I can help him out please ?

Lannister has a number of things going for them.

First, most Lannister cards tend to be more strongly developed towards the INTrigue challenge, then POWer, and then MILitary last but not necessarily least.

1. Kneeling

You mentioned this. They have a lot of cards and card effects that kneel enemy characters/locations.

2. Money

Lannisters love money. They can generate a lot of cash, which, with cards like Sweet Cersei, can help them dominate challenges.

3. Shadows

Lannisters have a lot of shadows cards. These tend to fall under the kneeling mechanic above, but they can do some other shadows trickery, like King's Landing Tyrion or King's Landing Twin.

4. Clansman

This is still forthcoming in the current chapter cycle, developing the Clansman subtype. It looks like it will involve kneeling your own Clansman for a variety of benefits.

5. Infamy

... is the Lannister special keyword. It puts power on characters instead of your house card. They have many cards about reducing power on their own house card for a variety of benefits. You can play off this concept using cards such as Cersei's Wheelhouse to have control of who wins initiative, or tying it in with the new Brotherhood cards in the current cycle, which are all about keeping power off your house card.

6. Summer/Winter

Lannister does both and neither. They are one of the houses that have the few cards that key off it being either summer or winter. If you want to be particularily tricky, you can build a deck that starts in Summer and works towards Winter, using cards like Summer tax, Taxed Dry and the oft-overlooked Demon's Dance.

Every house has jillions of ways to play them, but in my opinion, these are the obvious strengths of house Lannister.
