Another use for those Greyjoy housecards.

By Eldil, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I played Call of Cthulhu last night, and it struck me that my three Greyjoy house cards would make intimidating domain cards, and look very thematically appropriate.

Yeah...but still, with upcoming reprint for Kings of the Sea deluxe expansion (description still says this 60 card expansion), I hope the card distribution changes to something more in the lines of Lords of Winter (triplicate) or even Princes of the Sun (duplicate)...minus the GJ resin housecard of course (to be sold separately).

You really believe in this?

I have to agree with Rogue30, if I read his tone right. I very much doubt they'll reprint Kings of the Sea with a different distribution.

You're may be right, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't change it to 3x.

In a perfect world, I would like to see it changed to 3x. But currently, there are hundreds of stores with the original product stocked. If FFG reprints a "new" Kings of the Sea, which costs the same amount of money but with 3x distribution and no house card, they'll have effectively made the original product obsolete. Then FFG would have to make the decision whether to a) buy back the original product from those stores (this would completely ruin any profit margin on the "reprint," and might significantly impact the AGOT LCG line as a whole), or b) earn a tremendous amount of ill will with those stores and distributors that stocked the original product, making them less likely to carry AGOT products in the future. Both options hurt FFG, and hurt the future of AGOT.

The best thing FFG could have done about Kings of the Sea is do exactly what they did: amend their distribution strategy, and provide all future products with full 3x distribution at a great value.

If it's that readily in stock, then there really is no need for a reprint. There was a point in which it was pretty much impossible to get the Core Set except through BarnesandNoble.com and resellers on eBay. If FFG waits just as long to reprint the GJ Box as they did with they Core Set, I don't see why they can't reprint it 3x.

Let the market dry up, and implement the stronger business model of 3x. Yeah, a few retailers may still be unhappy about it if they didn't manage to sell their dwindling copies, but making it easier for more people to get into the game will lead to higher sales and profits. They could also still sell at cost (retailer's cost is less than consumers) for those who want the resin card. In the end, FFG, the retailer, and the consumer will all be happier the more 3x cards that are available.

Or at least make a 2x supplement pack. The 1x and House GJ resin card was just a really bad idea. There really is no good reason to make the same mistake again.

I agree with you, just remember it was not a mistake - FFG knew perfectly well what they are doing.

It depends on how much Kings of the Sea is out there... if they reprint it 3x when there is almost no distro stock then its not a big deal. I don't think many stores are sitting on copies of this. Many probably have just 1 or 2. FFG would just have to forewarn them... and I don't think they would be any more miffed than other product updates.

Define "Perfectly Well." If you mean they tried to release a product and make as much money as possible off of it, then yes, they did know Perfectly Well. But if you are saying they did it deliberately to hose the players, I don't think that was their intent.
