I played a Targ Burn deck against my friend's Tully deck last night, and some questions arose. I apologize if these have been answered innumerable times before:
1.) Sansa Stark has Nymeria attached. I play "Poisoned Wine" on her (-2 STR) and then use Drogon's ability: "Any Phase: Pay 2 gold to choose a character. Until the end of the phase, that character gets -1 STR and is killed if its STR is 0. (Limit once per phase.)" Sansa kneels Nymeria to save, but Drogon's ability lasts "until the end of the phase," and Sansa's strength remains 0, so it seems like it is a persistent kill effect. Does she die, or does Nymeria save her?
2.) Brinne of Tarth (Princes of the Sun) wins a military challenge. I select "Dany's Handmaiden" for claim. I go to trigger her response "Response: After Daenerys Targaryen or Dany's Handmaiden is killed, choose and discard an attachment from play. " and my opponent points out that Brienne has the static ability "While Brienne of Tarth is participating in a challenge, opponents cannot trigger effects." I ruled that since claim (and responses to claim) were part of the challenge, Brienne was still "participating" in the challenge, so I couldn't trigger the Handmaiden's ability. Was this right?
3.) My opponent ran a military challenge with the Blackfish and the Knight of the Tumblestone, and won. He used the Blackfish's response: "Response: After you win a challenge as the attacker, draw 1 card." He drew "Die By the Sword," and wanted to know if he could play it immediately (Response: After you win a [Military] challenge in which you have at least 1 participating [WAR] character, choose and kill 1 character controlled by the losing opponent. Limit 1 per challenge.). Since you can trigger multiple responses to the save event, I ruled that he could play it, since he was effectively just playing two different responses to the same event. Was this right?
Thanks!
