Next expansion?

By azjerei, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Will there be one? What will it include? Will it be a small or big expansion? Speculate, speculate, speculate :)

The pattern would suggest that the next expansion is a big-box. However, with the recent announcement of the investigator minis, there's probably not going to be any new investigators. And with the new CoC title being announced in October, it may be that FFG is going to focus their energies on this new game and will no longer be making expansions for AH.

Not to mention—what would be the new town?

I wouldn't count on any of these things:

  • New investigators
  • New town boards
  • Replacement components that have received an errata at some point
  • A "mixer" expansion (though that would be nice)

Maybe this new game is going to be a Mountains of Madness or Severn Valley or Egypt expansion, and there can be a way to combine it with AH so that investigators can travel back and forth.

Ill say it again. Providence Horror, with HPL and circle contemporaries as allies (or investigators). Cards which fill in the gaps of all other expansions. Including PS in IH did not hurt sales.

Arkham Horror Horror. A board game called Akrham Horror hits the shelves of Arkham. Investigators slowly become addicted to it, losing all their money and Sanity while the world falls to pieces around them. Eventually they have no friends or means of income and spend their time writing smart alecky messages on specialist internet forums.

Of course, it affects each investigator differently. Joe Diamond will only ever play Joe Diamond. Jenny will only play if someone "cool" is also playing, like Ursula. Mandy likes the game, but she can't believe they used THAT picture of her.

There's so much content already. I don't think they'll be making another expansion.

That's never stopped them with other titles. Although I do agree AH is fast approaching the bloat-line (if it hasn't reached it already.) I think there's enough content in this game to keep me happy at this point, so whatever they do in the future I may not end up buying it.

Ha. And I may have a bridge to sell you. gran_risa.gif

It is a shame that FFG don't do some of the fan creations. I know it is legal/probably money thing but some of the fan creations are just fantastic. I not just talking about custom investigators, heralds or Ancient Ones but mainly the small board expansion like the Sea of Horror with only about 5 -6 places on it. I still like Grudunza street encounter cards and someone was working on a Lost in Time and Space board that was awesome.

I have not printed any of these out yet (but will soon), but it would be nice if some of these ideas could be printed by FFG in high quality and to match the other components.

I would venture to say with some certainty that there definitely will be more AH product released. Do I have some inside info? No. But the bottom line is... the game sells incredibly well, and there is still a very active following and market for it. I would highly doubt that FFG would end the line on that.

However, it's possible that what we currently have is all we'll get as far as "Arkham", specifically, but I wonder if a future release might take the foundation of the game elsewhere, such as Antarctica. That would make sense with a big budget film version of "Mountains of Madness" supposedly in the works. Same investigators and GOOs can be used and much of the same essential system, but a completely different locale and some different twists to how things work.

Of course, that's just speculation, but I'd also like to see some "medium box" expansions come out for AH as it is... Some new GOOs and heralds, some more guardians, perhaps a small side board or two that throws in a few wrinkles or takes you inside places like the Woods or Silver Twilight Lodge in some more detail, and some fan variant ideas like the Clue Cards and Street Tokens would be good. And yes, an expansion expansion would be nice, too, with some more encounters and Mythos cards for Dunwich, Kingsport, Innsmouth.

I wouldn't absolutely rule out more investigators, either. They can always make more minis. I could see sets of new investigators being sold, including their sheets, their PS cards and their minis all packaged together in a group of 4-6, akin to Flying Frog's "Hero Packs" for Last Night on Earth and A Touch of Evil.

one idea for a big box expansion would be a Lovecraft Country expansion that drew on HPL and associated stories that take place anywhere from Providence, the Catskill Mountains, Miskatonic Valley, NYC, Boston... East Coast Horror anyone? The old Chaosium game Mythos did a very good job with assembling such material.

I also like the idea of 'meta' expansions, that are almost separate games in and of themselves, stuff like Beyond the Mountains of Madness, Miskatonic U expeditions, Masks :), etc.

I agree

It would really be the only thing left that makes thematic sense for Arkham. MoM would feel too much of a stretch, and would be best if given its own game. In 7D.

I think it would be cool if FFG released black sheets for us to print our custom AO's and/or investigators and maybe cards in the same quality as the stuff we buy from them.

Blank cards that we could print onto would be very nice. Not just AOs and investigators, but items, encounters, etc. I'd pay $30 for that.

nice idea!

Yes. I definately like that idea. It would make everything more uniform when using fan creations.

My favorite new gimmick would be to have a completely different deck for each other world, to give each one a unique feel. The gate deck is so thick right now that really that's clearly what they should have done to begin with.

South Church: whenever you go shopping for a blessing at the South Church, roll a die. On a '1', Father Michael is busy, playing AH with friends. Instead of being blessed, you're delayed.

Yeah, this would be great ::nodding::
Anyway, my two cents.. a couple of separate games, Mountain of Madness, Dreamlands, Egypt. And a victorian London setting, like the old Chaosium's "Cthulhu by gaslight". Possibly in AH-style, I mean 100% co-op. And even if it's unlikely to happen, expansions expanding expansions would be great.
