Cleric Character

By BanthaFodder, in Talisman

So now we know two characters.

The second being the Cleric (artwork by Felicia Cano) :

So, female Priest version who can use weapons? Poor, poor Priest.

Definitely leaning to FRPG clerics. It will be interesting (for Talisman simple mechanics) to see where it comes up between characters like the Priest, Knight, and any concepts of a holy warrior.

As I have english as a second language I'm really not sure what the difference between a priest and a cleric is.

I thought maybe that a cleric is kind of a priest, like a bishop is?? preocupado.gif

I agree. From memory in D&D the cleric class was mainly about healing and turning the undead.

Will be interesting to see how they don't make the Priest look even more of a wet fish than he already is.

I am guessing they won't be edging towards Paladin territory as she is wielding a mace.

Must say, I am a big fan of Felcia's work but there seems to be something about character artwork that does not sit well with me.

Perhaps it is because they are removed from any environment but they just seem very two-dimensional.

Actually, a priest is a type of cleric. In a broad sense, a cleric is a member of the clergy from any religion.

Thanks to Dungeons and Dragons, clerics in fantasy have a strong association with healing and helping others. I have no idea how all this will be translated to a Talisman character.

In a generic religious context, you are right. In that same broad sense, a monk, minister, etc., are also clerics. Although there was one time that the term cleric carried connotations of "clerical" gui%C3%B1o.gif . The term referred to those of the priesthood who worked in the institutional side rather than the "priestly" side; they were not "ordained" priests, to twist that term. I won't go further than that and bore anyone.

I still say she'll be a direct take on an FRP cliche cleric. Probably a bit of the Priest's advantages for prayer combined with being allowed armor but likely not allowed weapons (as the only ones in Talisman are edged and/or pointed). Maybe she'll be allow Magic Weapons. Who knows, maybe she'll has GOOD take on the old ability to gain boons from the divine when defeating other characters. We'll have to wait and see.

Yes, but it seemed obvious from the picture that they weren't going for the "clerical" connatations of the word.

I think the Talisman "Cleric" is the D&D Cleric: "Self-righteous guy who swings a mace because it's far better to reduce your enemy to a shapeless pudding than to spill blood; and which is more healing oriented just to differentiate him from fireball-shooting mages"

The Cleric's artwork looks very good.

I wonder how she will play in the game.

She is at least better than the priest.. cool.gif
