Still to come "Big Expansions"

By miles601, in Talisman

While prowling Boardgamegeek I noticed that Talisman 3rd Edition had 2 "big box" expansions that contained corner expansion boards similar to the R4th Edition. I noticed that Dungeon and Mountain (Highland) were together and City and Forest were together. Is FFG going to follow the design of these boards? If not has anyone heard what alternate boards they may be using for the final two "corners" of the main board?

Considering the order of then and now, the best "guess" might be the City next and then the Forest... though the names might be changed. On the other hand, maybe the City won't be done at all, and just the Forest and something new will pop up. Might be a few people who have some inside leads, but they probably can't talk about it at this time. The rest of us can only speculate.

I'll be happy with anything as long as it's not timescape LOL.

Yeah, I hear ya. And there's already a Timescape remake for 4ER available at BoardGameGeeks.com

Personally I'm greatly looking forward to a city expansion. City and Dungeon were always my favourites from ages past. I think that City and Forest are reasonable assumptions for the next two corner boards. What's really interesting is the thought of what (if anything) they do next.

Swappable corner boards for a different game each time? Not sure how feasible that is - I gather that at least the new Dungeon has a fixed entry point at the ruins. I know I heard someone once suggest boards that go outside THESE corner boards, but that's a bit silly, I think. =P

Some kind of island board that sits apart from the rest and has water around the edges would be cool. Both boats and magic portals could be employed to travel back and forth.

The Island concept sounds good. I could go for something new amid all the remakes.

i have no insight into what wil actually come out but logic would seem to dictate a city and some sort of "dark forest" connecting the forest and the graveyard on the main board. i like the way the highlands and dungeon expand your movement options but i hope the two new ones will be different in the way you move through them and the rewards you recieve for completing them. maybe something similar to the inner region where you you have two choices one based on craft and the other on strength or possibly alignment based with different paths for good and evil characters. as far as an island expansion it could play like the old-school dungeon or timescape expansions where an adventure card will reveal a doorway allowing you to pass into the area. i often play with my brother and a few close friends that make light of my "homestead" expansion. an area you could encounter from another characters starting space that has some signifance to their powers/objects. it could be rife with guardians, traps and/or treasures. my point is the city and "dark forest" are a foregone conclusion yet there are other possibilities that could be entertaining especially in the 4+ multiplayer games where talisman is at its best.

This JUST popped into my head as I was reading this thread. They can make a 5th or more corner boards, by making them “disaster” boards.

Imagine 1-10 Adventure cards that trigger a “disaster”. That works like a partial Ragnarok. All cards in (random or selected) board corner is removed. Put the new board on top of the old one. All characters there lose 1 life and are punted to the entrance.

Example = Collapsed Cave Corner board.

When you draw the Collapsed cave, it is put exactly over the Dungeon board spot. If you don’t have dungeon, it’s just a corner piece that doesn’t show up at the start of the game. If you have dungeon, it’s a card that presses reset on that Dungeon board, and, then, you just put the new Collapsed Cave corner board on top of the dungeon one (or replace it if that extra 1/8th of an inch height bothers you.).

Voila.

You could have, assuming the next 2 corners are City and Forest… Collapsed Cave (Replaces Dungeon), Volcano (Replaces Highland), Sacked Ruins (Replaces City) and Flooded Swamplands (Replaces Forest).

Or similar.

Might even be a mechanic of Auto-Swap vs Roll a dice vs Ignore based on how many “replacement” cards there are.

Too bad the devs rarely read this, because I really like the above idea. But hey, one can dream.
