Tully Shadows

By Eldil, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

This is my attempt to build a deck around my single copy of the King's Landing Catelyn Stark. My plan is to use Catelyn Stark to prevent any intrigue challenges, and then build up power on Tully characters using Riverrun.

Agenda (1)

1 Kings of Winter

Plots (7)

1 Family, Duty, Honor
1 Respect of the Old Gods
1 The Tides of War
1 The Power of Blood
1 The Winds of Winter
1 The Minstrel's Muse
1 Summoning Season

Characters (29)

1 * Catelyn Stark
3 Carrion Bird
1 * Arya Stark (KL)
1 * Syrio Forel
1 * Varys (KL)
1 Pyromancer's Apprentice
1 * Ser Mandon Moore
3 House Tully Recruiter
3 Trident Reinforcements
1 * Ser Rodrik Cassel
1 * Hodor
3 Knight of the Tumblestone
3 Guard at Riverrun
3 Edmure's Host
1 * Ser Edmure Tully
1 * Hoster Tully
1 * The Blackfish

Locations (14)

1 * Storm Dancer
1 * Lord Eddard's Chambers
3 Great Keep
2 * Riverrun
3 Narrow Sea
1 Street of Steel
1 Street of Sisters
2 Frozen Outpost

Attachments (14)

3 White Raven
2 * Crown of Winter
1 * Maester Malleon's Tome
3 Bodyguard
3 Frozen Solid
1 * Nymeria
1 The Long Winter

Events (6)

2 The Raven's Message
2 Routing the Charge
2 Endless Endurance

Is there any targeted character elimination (like Milk of the Poppy)? What if your opponent runs core Melissandre?

I tried this last night, and it worked (both times), but it didn't work smoothly. I failed to notice that "The Raven's Message" is unplayable, since none of my plots are "power struggles." In the second game, I pulled Catelyn Stark into my hand, but lost her to an intrigue challenge before I could get her into play. I managed to pull out a victory primarily through Arya Stark and Syrio Forel.

I think I'll replace the "Raven's Message" with Milk of the Poppy, to give an added element of control to this deck.

Also, I failed to get "Riverrun" into my hand, so I think I'll add a copy of "Bran the Builder's Legacy" just to smooth it out.

1 Bran the Builder's Legacy

2 Lethal Counterattack

I think you'll have to get some better protection for Catelyn, like King's Landing Ned or Maester Vyman. Dontos is just a bit weak, especially as it doesn't protect her against anything in the marshalling phase, when Dontos would most likely still be standing. In my experience cards like Catelyn tend to draw a lot of fire from opponents and since the deck does to a certain extent revolve around her, you're going to have to protect her well.

What will you do if your opponent plays Valar? Not only will you lose all your characters, but you'll also lose all of your accumulated power!

The general answer to Valar has just been printed in Kings of the Storm Narrow Escape. A deck that relies on dudes basically keeps this to offset Valar. The opponent can sacrifice their hand to counter, but then hopefully you have card advantage. Utilize the card advantage to rebuild and win.

Narrow escape can easily be countered by someone else discarding, and would be a case of back to square one for any power on characters, so it's only a very partial defence.

Note that Narrow Escape will not recover the power that was on your characters when they died.
