Main Empire map ? Question......Please help ffg

By boggle2, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi

This is going to sound crazy

what this game lacks is a very detailed main map

With socket for cards (ok i can dream) that contain information about that town ect

I know it would be huge and expensive but come on surely this world deserves a good one is there one in the pipe line?

Regards

Sean

You could always check out my gallery site for dozens of maps and WFRP resources:

Wow, those are some awesome maps! Thanks!

Hrm, the idea of a map with sockets for further information sounds interesting. One could envision a map with various sockets along the edges for socketing location cards. There could be something to this.

I was thinking something like the following..

Depending on player skills area knowledge there could be three levels of information to each location slide card in see map of town turn over see information known about town.

Well you get the idea...

SOunds to me something the GM should do for preparations. The kind of info revealed is very much dependent on the scenario run. its a fun idea, But if FFG should make it can only be very generic.

I think it's a great idea, and would make a wonderful Empire Box release. One or two books containing more detailed descrpitions, rules for travelling, expanded rules for haggling (as well as merchant routes and such) and anything that fits. And a great map with a lot of special location cards.

Those cards would feature every village, town and city of the Empire, as well as some locations, and bring a very small description, some special information (that could be obtained with a Folklore test), and generic info such as what we find in second edition's Sigmar's Heir: number / training of soldiers / militia, if there is trading culture, goods and other information.

It would be greatly innovative, but in a way I imagine this game going. To take value information out of books and put it on the table for easy access and fun playing.

I don't know. I can see how this may cater to people who take particular interest in the Warhammer setting as it is always nice to get more info about the setting you like and maps are great. (personally I'm not the biggest fan of Warhammer fantasy setting, I like the 40k setting better of the two. Its more original IMO). But to me the map thing with cards revealing additional info based on skill tests etc. sounds very boardgamy. I know lots of people think of this as a boardgame RPG, but I would think those people are generally the same that don't like (and buy) this game.

Well, Andy Law's ULTIMATE empire map is coming... But who knows when. When waiting for that, Gitzmans map is good choise.

The Empire Map

I think game could use nice little package about the Empire. Even this might cost little extra it really would be great IF:

  • Box could include poster map with accuracy of Andy's map.
  • Sigmar's Heirs type of a book
  • Dozen or even more of major towns more detailed. Some info, important places and map.
  • I quess package like this might be nice place to also include Halflings...

the game needs a quality map why oh why is there not one....

personally i would love to see a jigsaw type map with detail that you can add i think it would be in keeping with the design of this edition...

As for andy laws map loads of flash but not very accurate if he sorts out those issues and it allows you to zoom in i would buy it....

many thanks to one and all for there thoughts keep them coming.

Basically a campaign setting book/box with a map. It would be nice and useful. But I think that Jay & Co. are gonna go for the Dark Heresy style slowly releasing more details of the world with each supplement. As they do with action cards. That way they make sure that the product is useful to more people/buyers.

But they should still make a map.

Really, I don't agree with you that a map with location cards showing how much info a character can get with how much success is necesarily boardgamy. At a first glance, everything about third edition might seem boardgamy (to me it sure did). I just think it fits the way they are managing scenario description and specially rule-roleplaying relations. I'm not into "I got three success, unveil the info" as the way to play such a suggestion, but to give some ideas of what type of info could be given with so many success should give us nice pictures of how difficult is to know certain things in each area, as well as a lot of story hooks.

To expand the idea, different success / different information could be applied only to general information as how many soldiers are in a given area, and what are their training, and how much detail you get about trade and local goods, and about geography and rumours (there are some locations where it is easier to hear rumours than others).
